What You Will Do:

  • Defend leading financial institutions, banks, mortgage lenders, and loan servicers in sophisticated consumer financial services litigation in state and federal courts, helping clients navigate high-stakes disputes and evolving legal risks.
  • Take ownership of matters from strategy through resolution, including drafting pleadings and dispositive motions, managing discovery, taking and defending depositions, appearing in court, negotiating resolutions, and preparing matters for trial.
  • Handle claims arising under key federal and state consumer financial services laws, including matters involving the FCRA, FDCPA, RESPA, TILA, TCPA, state consumer protection statutes, and related banking and servicing regulations.
  • Develop practical, business-focused litigation strategies to help financial services clients resolve disputes efficiently, mitigate risk, and navigate an increasingly complex regulatory environment.
  • Collaborate directly with clients and Hinshaw attorneys across the country, gaining meaningful client exposure while contributing to a nationally recognized and growing Consumer Financial Services practice.

Qualifications

  • 5+ years of litigation experience, with a strong preference for experience in consumer financial services, banking, mortgage servicing, commercial litigation, or other complex civil litigation.
  • Admission to the New Jersey Bar and good standing required; New York admission or eligibility for admission is a plus.
  • Strong litigation skills, including demonstrated experience with legal research and writing, discovery, motion practice, depositions, court appearances, and case strategy.
  • Excellent judgment, communication, and client-service skills, with the ability to independently manage matters and deadlines while collaborating effectively with attorneys and clients across offices.
  • Experience defending banks, lenders, mortgage servicers, fintech companies, or other financial institutions — particularly in matters involving the FCRA, FDCPA, RESPA, TILA, TCPA, mortgage servicing, credit reporting, or state consumer protection laws — is highly valued.
