Job Description/Responsibilities:
In this role, you will manage auto and premises liability claims, which encompass New York Labor Law, construction defects, and/or claims for property damage by third parties. You'll frequently communicate with internal team members, as well as policyholders, agents, attorneys, and various claim-related service providers. Key tasks include building strong relationships with claims staff, internal teams, policyholders, attorneys, agents, and a range of experts and service providers to ensure the best possible results for policyholders. Additionally, you will be responsible for overseeing a portfolio of complex and high-stakes litigated claims that involve intricate liability and damage matters. This involves evaluating coverage by interpreting and applying policy language to the facts of claims and crafting timely and suitable coverage position letters. You will also conduct thorough and prompt claim investigations, evaluations, and fair settlements for all claims assigned to you. It’s crucial to maintain accurate and timely reserves, in line with established practices and philosophy regarding reserving.
Requirements/Skills:
Candidates should possess a 4-year degree or have relevant work experience that is equivalent. A minimum of three years' experience in handling commercial lines claims is required. Familiarity with New York Labor Law, as well as construction defects and/or third-party property damage claims, is an advantage. You should be able to oversee defense counsel, select and retain appropriate experts, and create effective resolution strategies. Professional certifications or actively pursuing industry-specific designations would be beneficial. Strong organizational, negotiation, and both verbal and written communication skills are essential.
