Full job description
The VP Commercial & Brand Finance is the global functional leader accountable for Commercial & Brand Finance at TOMY International. Reporting to the Chief Financial Officer, the role has scope across enterprise finance partnering. It exists to build and lead business-facing finance partnering for brand, customer, channel, pricing, promotion, margin and investment decisions.
The role leads the enterprise Commercial & Brand Finance capability and provides decision partnership at the point where brands, categories, customers, channels, pricing, promotions, licensing, royalties, and portfolio choices affect value. It creates global methods and standards while embedding Brand Finance Directors close to category and business leaders.
Success requires a finance leader who can build this capability from limited current infrastructure and earn credibility with both Finance and the business. The role must improve pricing, promotion ROI, customer/channel profitability, brand P&L insight, licensing economics, and resource allocation without duplicating enterprise FP&A or compromising financial-control independence.
Key Responsibilities1. Commercial & Brand Finance Strategy• Define the enterprise business-partnering model, role expectations, service priorities, governance, and capability roadmap.
• Create common methods for brand/category, customer, channel, pricing, promotion, trade, licensing, and portfolio economics.
• Prioritize finance partnership where decision complexity and value at stake are greatest.
• Advise the CFO and executive team on commercial value creation, margin risks, and investment choices.
2. Brand, Category & Portfolio Partnership• Lead Brand Finance Directors supporting global category and brand portfolios with clear P&L, margin, pricing, royalty, and investment insight.
• Challenge portfolio, innovation, marketing, assortment, lifecycle, and resource-allocation assumptions constructively.
• Ensure brand/category inputs flow consistently into enterprise forecasts and plans through FP&A.
• Track decisions and outcomes so finance partnership changes behavior and improves value.
3. Customer, Channel, Pricing & Promotion Economics• Establish analytical and governance standards for customer/channel profitability, pricing, trade investment, promotions, markdowns, marketplace fees, and retail media.
• Partner with CCO, Regional Presidents, Sales, and Growth Ventures on major negotiations, account plans, DTC/marketplace economics, and margin trade-offs.
• Provide clear guardrails and scenarios without taking ownership of customer relationships or commercial decisions.
• Identify structural margin leakage, cost-to-serve, mix, and investment opportunities and drive corrective action.
4. Licensing, Royalties & IP Economics• Lead the finance capability for royalty tracking, guarantees, licensing deal economics, IP-level profitability, and licensed-line margin.
• Partner with the Intellectual Property Lead and Legal on deal scenarios, obligations, renewals, and commercial terms.
• Ensure royalty and license assumptions are reflected accurately in pricing, forecasts, business cases, and performance reviews.
• Build transparency to the value and complexity of owned and licensed IP across brands and markets.
5. Planning, Performance & Decision Support• Connect business-partnering insight to FP&A planning, forecasts, scenarios, performance narratives, and resource allocation.
• Standardize business cases, post-investment reviews, price/mix/volume bridges, profitability views, and decision templates.
• Use forward-looking indicators and scenarios to frame options and risks before decisions are locked.
• Improve decision speed and quality while reducing ad hoc analysis and inconsistent local methods.
6. Team, Tools & Finance Capability• Build and develop Brand Finance and Licensing & Royalties teams with strong commercial, analytical, and influencing capability.
• Define data, systems, hierarchy, profitability, allocation, and reporting requirements with FP&A, Controllership, and Technology.
• Create career paths, talent rotations, common standards, and a constructive challenge culture across finance partnering.
