Role Description The Human Resources Manager is a full-time, on-site role based in Lake Bluff, IL. This role oversees the full employee lifecycle, including recruiting, hiring, onboarding, and offboarding for office staff and field personnel. The Human Resources Manager administers benefits, payroll-related HR processes, and HR documentation while ensuring compliance with labor laws, safety regulations, and company policies. Day-to-day responsibilities include supporting managers with performance management, handling employee relations issues, maintaining accurate HR records, and assistance with coordinating training and development initiatives. The role also contributes to HR strategy, helps shape a positive workplace culture, and partners with leadership to align HR practices with business goals.
Qualifications
- Demonstrated skills in recruitment, interviewing, and onboarding processes for both office and field roles.
- 8+ years experience with HR administration with a General Contractor, including benefits management, HRIS usage, and personnel recordkeeping.
- Knowledge of employment law, compliance, and workplace policies, preferably within construction or related industries.
- Ability to manage employee relations, conflict resolution, and performance management in a fair and consistent manner.
- Strong communication (bilingual in English and Spanish), organization, and time management skills, with the ability to handle multiple priorities on-site.
- Proficiency in standard office software (e.g., Microsoft Office) and comfort learning new HR tools and systems.
- Bachelor’s degree in Human Resources, Business Administration, or a related field, or equivalent practical experience.
- Experience as an HR generalist or HR manager in a fast-paced environment; familiarity with construction workforce dynamics is a plus.
