Human Resources Office Manager
Full job description
Long Island City based general contracting and construction management firm building high-end residential and specialty projects is seeking a Human Resources & Office Manager.
The role
This is a hands-on role for someone who wants ownership of HR at a company where they'll know everyone's name. You'll run recruiting and hiring, manage the employee lifecycle from onboarding through offboarding, administer benefits and payroll, keep our safety training and compliance current, and keep the office running. You'll work directly with ownership and our executive team, supporting our office and field staff.
This role offers direct exposure to executives and ownership, and the chance to build the HR function at a growing construction firm.
Recruiting and hiring
- Run full-cycle recruiting for office and field roles — sourcing, screening, interview coordination, references, and offers
- Build and maintain our applicant tracking system and candidate pipeline, so we have bench strength before we need it
- Manage job postings and outside recruiter relationships
Employee lifecycle
- Own onboarding: paperwork, I-9 verification, orientation, equipment, and site access
- Administer benefits enrollment, changes, and employee questions on coverage
- Process and oversee payroll
- Track PTO, sick leave, and absence, and maintain accurate balances
- Coordinate performance review cycles and support managers on documentation
- Handle staffing issues and employee relations, escalating to ownership where warranted
- Manage terminations and offboarding, including final pay, documentation, and exit interviews
Safety and compliance
- Schedule and track safety training, including SST and OSHA requirements
- Maintain employee compliance records and training documentation
- Keep employment practices current with New York State and New York City law
Culture and office
- Lead employee engagement — recognition, company events, and the day-to-day things that make people want to stay
- Manage and maintain the office, including supplies, snacks, and other employee perks
- Handle ad hoc office and administrative needs as they come up
What we're looking for
- 3–5 years of HR experience, ideally as a generalist
- Construction, trades, or a similar field-based workforce strongly preferred
- Working knowledge of New York State and New York City employment law
- Experience running payroll
- Familiarity with applicant tracking systems and building a pipeline from scratch
- Discretion with confidential information, and the judgment to know what needs to reach ownership
- Genuinely willing to do both the strategic and the small stuff — this role covers both
- SHRM-CP or PHR a plus
Compensation and benefits
$80,000–$100,000 annually, commensurate with experience.
- Health insurance
- 401(k) retirement plan
- Employer-paid life insurance
- Paid time off and recognized holidays
