Full job description

Are you the kind of HR leader who knows that culture is built in the everyday moments: a warm welcome on day one, a thoughtful conversation with a manager, a clear process that helps people feel supported, and the energy you bring into the room?

Our client is a growing specialty materials manufacturing organization that plays an important role in producing essential materials used by industrial and commercial customers.

They are looking for a personable, hands-on HR Manager who is excited to set the tone for the employee experience as the company continues to grow. This is a great opportunity for someone who enjoys rolling up their sleeves, building structure, supporting employees and managers, and shaping culture inside a close-knit, mission-driven operation.

In this role, you will lead day-to-day people operations while helping us create scalable HR practices that support our next stage of growth. You will partner closely with leadership, serve as a trusted resource for employees, and build rapport and trustworthy relationships with people across the organization so team members feel welcomed, informed, and engaged.

What You’ll Do

  • Support employee onboarding, offboarding, and key employee transitions with care and consistency
  • Oversee payroll and benefits administration, ensuring accuracy and a positive employee experience
  • Manage employee relations, HR compliance, policies, records, and documentation
  • Partner with managers on performance conversations, employee concerns, and day-to-day people questions
  • Build practical HR processes that can scale as the organization grows
  • Lead culture-building and engagement initiatives that help define what it feels like to work in the organization

What We’re Looking For

  • 6–10 years of progressive HR experience
  • A people-first, approachable style with strong judgment and follow-through
  • A natural relationship-builder who enjoys earning trust, creating connection, and being a reliable resource for employees and team members
  • Experience in manufacturing, industrial operations, or process-driven environments is highly preferred; chemical manufacturing experience is a plus
  • Strong working knowledge of payroll, benefits, employee relations, and HR compliance
  • Bachelor’s degree in Human Resources, Business Administration, or a related field
  • A desire to be part of a close-knit team where your work directly shapes the employee experience
  • Travel: Must be open to travel on occasion to our growing plant in Iowa as well as our future plant in AZ.
  • Work Environment: On-site in Skokie/Evanston area and must be comfortable commuting

If you are energized by building something meaningful, enjoy being a trusted partner to employees, and want to help shape the culture of a growing organization, we’d love to hear from you.
