Human Resources Manager

HR Manager | Insurance Industry | Full-Time

Commack main office location & Bayside, NY secondary office 1-2 days as needed (Position is in-Person)

Private Staff Group is seeking a highly experienced HR Manager to join a well-established insurance organization. This is a hands-on generalist role for a seasoned HR professional with 10 to 20 years of experience who can operate independently across both strategic and administrative HR functions in a fast-paced, regulated environment.

What you'll do:

• Investigate and resolve employee complaints, workplace conflicts, and lead workplace investigations as needed
• Partner with managers on performance issues, including Performance Improvement Plans
• Support salary planning, calculate merit increases, and administer leave and time-off programs
• Process semi-monthly payroll and verify timecards
• Manage full-cycle recruitment, from sourcing and screening through offer letters and onboarding
• Maintain the Employee Handbook and ensure ongoing compliance with federal, state, and local labor law
• Monitor staffing levels, analyze turnover trends, and build quarterly schedules
• Track professional license renewals for licensed staff

Who we're looking for:

• 10 to 20 years of progressive HR experience, preferably within insurance, financial services, or another regulated industry
• Working knowledge of ADP and Workday, or comparable HRIS/payroll platforms
• Strong understanding of ACA compliance, leave administration, and employment law
• PHR, SPHR, SHRM-CP, or SHRM-SCP certification a plus
• Comfortable operating as a standalone or lead HR function with minimal oversight
