Interim Consumer Lending Leader

Premier America has a 6-9 month need for an Interim Consumer Lending Leader to plan, manage, and execute consumer lending activities across auto loans, personal loans, credit cards, and related products. This role will oversee loan origination, servicing, sales support, regulatory alignment, operational execution, and cross-functional coordination. As a valued thought partner, the interim leader will work with teams across the credit union to improve operational efficiency, support consumer lending strategic plans, launch or refine lending products, maintain lending policies, and align operational priorities with resource planning.
The interim leader will be expected to balance near-term operational continuity with longer-term improvements in lending performance, risk management, member experience, and team effectiveness.
Major Duties and Responsibilities
Consumer Lending Oversight and Execution
- Collaborates with the Senior Leadership Team to develop and execute the consumer lending (direct and indirect) strategy.
- Collaborates with stakeholders (retail, insurance, finance, etc.) and vendors to create organization production forecasts for all consumer products and services.
- Analyzes, adjusts and/or develops new loan products to meet market demand.
- Recommends pricing strategies to support Premier America’s financial goals while ensuring that the loan portfolio meets established credit quality and profitability parameters.
- Collaborates with the Real Estate team to train the Consumer Lending team to support mortgage lending production as necessary.
Performance and Portfolio Management
- Creates and monitors analytics and reporting to ensure department controls, identify weaknesses, evaluate portfolio and production trends, and surface opportunities to improve growth, efficiency, risk management, and member experience.
- Oversees related lending vendors and systems, including originations workflow and reporting.
- Develops and implements consistent organizational policies and procedures to ensure regulatory compliance.
- Maintains oversight of operating policy administration and controls, exception authority frameworks, and risk management practices to ensure sound portfolio performance and regulatory alignment.
- Explores and leverages automation, analytics, workflow technologies, and AI-enabled tools to improve consistency, operational efficiency, decision quality, process scalability, and team effectiveness.
- Identifies practical opportunities to streamline lending processes, reduce manual effort, improve workflow consistency, and enhance the overall member and team experience.
- Stays abreast of industry standards and changes, market conditions, and trends related to lending and pricing.
- Oversees department vendor management program including legal review and contract negotiation and ensures vendors are delivering on agreed upon standards.
- Point person for the department on examinations, audits, regulatory matters and member complaints. Monitors any corrective actions or response items as necessary.
Organizational Leadership and People Management
- Manages overall budget and oversight of the various teams within the Consumer Lending departments and ensures that team performance meets the standards as established.
- Supports positive Board, Committee and Volunteer relations based on communication, collaboration, and executive leadership.
- Attends seminars and professional conferences as necessary.
- Stays informed of trends and changes in the credit union industry.
Requirements.
- Bachelor’s degree in Business Administration, Finance, Accounting, Economics, or a related field required; advanced degree or relevant lending, risk, or financial services certification preferred.
- 12+ years of progressive leadership experience in consumer lending, credit administration, loan operations, or financial services, preferably within a credit union or banking environment.
- Demonstrated success leading direct and indirect consumer lending functions, including loan origination, underwriting, servicing, portfolio management, pricing, and product strategy.
- Experience developing and implementing lending policies, operational controls, risk management practices, and regulatory compliance processes in a highly regulated financial institution.
- Proven ability to lead cross-functional lending teams, manage vendor relationships, advise senior leadership, and deliver measurable improvements in production, efficiency, member experience, and portfolio performance.
- Executive-level consumer lending leadership with the ability to translate organizational strategy into disciplined lending plans, production goals, portfolio priorities, and operational execution.
- Strong knowledge of direct and indirect consumer lending, including loan origination, underwriting, servicing, pricing, product strategy, dealer/vendor relationships, and member experience.
- Deep understanding of credit risk, portfolio performance, delinquency trends, loss mitigation, policy administration, and exception management within a regulated financial institution.
- Strong analytical and financial acumen with the ability to use data, reporting, forecasting, and performance metrics to evaluate lending results and recommend business improvements.
- Proven ability to lead cross-functional teams, build talent, manage change, strengthen operational controls, and collaborate effectively with retail, finance, risk, compliance, legal, technology, and executive stakeholders.
- High degree of integrity, sound judgment, regulatory awareness, and executive presence, with the ability to communicate clearly with senior leadership, committees, examiners, auditors, vendors, and team members.
Interim pay range: 12,500 - 14,500/month during assignment.
