CPI Foundation prepares transitioning active-duty service members for construction careers through immersive, hands-on training on meaningful projects in national parks. In partnership with the National Park Service, the Department of Defense, and industry employers, military participants gain commercial-quality experience in construction, maintenance, preservation, and infrastructure while developing the technical, safety, leadership, and professional skills needed for long-term success.

Position Summary

The Leadman / Foreman is a hands-on field leadership position responsible for supporting daily construction operations while providing direct supervision, instruction, and mentorship to CPI participants. The position requires a well-rounded construction professional with strong experience in carpentry, concrete placement and repair, flatwork, forming, and concrete finishing who is comfortable both leading a crew and actively performing construction work.

Working under the direction of CPI's Project Superintendent & Program Manager, the Leadman / Foreman helps organize daily activities, maintain safe and productive jobsites, coordinate materials and equipment, and ensure assigned work is completed to established quality and project standards.

Primary Responsibilities

• Serve as a positive example of construction professionalism by reinforcing accountability, initiative, teamwork, craftsmanship, and respect throughout daily operations
• Lead and actively participate in daily construction, repair, maintenance, and infrastructure activities while maintaining high standards for safety, quality productivity, and workmanship
• Provide hands-on instruction and mentorship to transitioning service members in construction methods, proper tool use, jobsite safety, teamwork, and professional workplace expectations
• Perform and supervise carpentry work, including layout, framing, forming, installation, repair, demolition, and general rough and finish carpentry
• Perform and supervise concrete and flatwork activities, including site preparation, forming, reinforcement, placement, screeding, finishing, curing, repair, and related concrete operations
• Demonstrate proper concrete finishing techniques and ensure completed work meets applicable specifications, tolerances, appearance, and quality requirements
• Review drawings, specifications, measurements, and daily work requirements with participants and assist with translating project documents into field activities
• Organize daily crew assignments, sequence work activities, monitor progress, and communicate labor, material, equipment, and scheduling needs to project leadership
• Conduct and participate in daily safety meetings, pre-task planning, jobsite inspections, and hazard identification while ensuring participants follow OSHA, CPI, and project-specific safety requirements
• Inspect completed work, identify deficiencies, and provide hands-on direction to ensure work meets established construction and quality standards
• Coordinate the staging, loading, unloading, movement, and organization of construction materials, tools, and equipment to support efficient field operations Primary Responsibilities (continued)
• Safely operate authorized company vehicles, trailers, telehandlers, forklifts, and construction equipment as required to support project activities
• Maintain accountability for tools and equipment, conduct routine inspections, report maintenance or repair needs, and maintain clean and organized work and storage areas
• Assist the Project Superintendent & Program Manager with project mobilization, site logistics, material planning, daily documentation, progress tracking, and project closeout
• Perform additional construction, transportation, equipment, maintenance, and field leadership responsibilities as required to support CPI projects

Required Qualifications

• Five or more years of hands-on construction experience, with demonstrated experience leading crews or serving in a Leadman, Foreman, Carpenter Foreman, Concrete Foreman, or similar field leadership position
• Strong hands-on experience in carpentry, concrete, flatwork, forming, and concrete finishing, with the ability to independently perform and teach these construction methods
• Demonstrated ability to plan daily work, assign tasks, supervise small crews, maintain productivity, and deliver quality work
• Strong knowledge of hand and power tools, construction materials, equipment, layout, measurements, and common construction methods
• Ability to read and interpret construction drawings, specifications, details, measurements, and project requirements
• Strong understanding of OSHA requirements, hazard recognition, PPE, fall protection, and general construction safety practices
• Ability and willingness to work directly alongside participants while providing patient, practical, hands-on instruction and mentorship
• Valid driver's license with a driving record that meets our insurability guidelines and ability to safely operate company vehicles and tow, back, and park utility & equipment trailers
• Ability to safely load, secure, transport, unload, and stage construction materials, tools, and equipment
• Ability to lift and carry up to 60 pounds and perform physical construction work outdoors in varying weather and jobsite conditions

Preferred Qualifications

• Previous experience as a Carpenter Foreman, Concrete Foreman, Lead Carpenter, Leadman, or Working Foreman
• Experience training, mentoring, or developing entry-level construction workers, apprentices, interns, or military personnel
• Experience operating construction equipment; including forklifts, skid steers, telehandlers, etc.
• Experience completing concrete sidewalks, slabs, pads, curbs, ramps, foundations, and other flatwork
• Experience with concrete repair, forming systems, reinforcement, placement, finishing, and quality control
• OSHA 30-Hour Construction, First Aid/CPR, and American Concrete Institute Field Testing Technician Grade 1 certifications
• Military service or experience working with veterans and transitioning service members
