Location: El Segundo, CA (Onsite)

About the Role

We are seeking a hands-on Materials & Process Engineer to support the development and manufacturing of advanced fiber-reinforced composite products. This role bridges material chemistry, manufacturing processes, and final product performance across aerospace, defense, and energy applications.

You will lead material characterization, process optimization, failure analysis, testing, and supplier collaboration while helping scale manufacturing processes from development to production. This is an excellent opportunity for someone who thrives in a fast-paced environment and enjoys wearing multiple hats across engineering, manufacturing, and operations.

Key Responsibilities

  • Conduct material characterization (TGA, DMA, DSC, rheology, mechanical testing)
  • Design and execute test plans and process development activities
  • Perform root cause and failure analysis investigations
  • Develop and optimize composite manufacturing processes
  • Evaluate, qualify, and source new materials and suppliers
  • Create SOPs, test methods, and laboratory procedures
  • Collaborate across engineering, manufacturing, quality, and supply chain teams
  • Support scale-up from development through production

Required Qualifications

  • U.S. Person as defined under EAR/ITAR regulations
  • Bachelor's degree in Materials Science, Chemistry, Composite Materials, Aerospace, Mechanical Engineering, or related field
  • 3+ years of composite materials manufacturing experience (5+ years for Senior level)
  • Strong understanding of process-structure-property relationships
  • Experience with material characterization and mechanical testing
  • Failure analysis and root cause investigation experience
  • Strong communication, organization, and problem-solving skills
  • Ability to work onsite Monday-Friday in El Segundo, CA

Preferred Qualifications

  • Composite manufacturing expertise
  • Experience with continuous and chopped fiber composites
  • DOE, JMP, or Minitab experience
  • Aerospace or defense industry experience
  • Knowledge of AS9100, NADCAP, or MIL-SPEC standards
  • Experience with epoxy, BMI, cyanate ester, vinyl ester, or phenolic resin systems
  • Startup or small-team environment experience
