MRO Buyer


Position Summary: We are seeking a detail-oriented MRO Buyer to manage the purchasing of maintenance, repair, and operations materials, supplies, equipment, and services that support safe, efficient, and uninterrupted business operations. This role will partner closely with maintenance, operations, finance, and suppliers to ensure critical items are available when needed while controlling cost, inventory levels, and supplier performance.


Key Responsibilities

  • Source, purchase, and expedite MRO materials, spare parts, tools, equipment, and related services.
  • Process purchase requisitions and purchase orders accurately and in compliance with company policies.
  • Research, evaluate, and qualify suppliers based on price, quality, delivery, service, and reliability.
  • Negotiate pricing, terms, lead times, and service levels to support cost savings and operational needs.
  • Partner with maintenance, production, warehouse, and engineering teams to forecast demand and maintain appropriate inventory levels.
  • Monitor open orders, resolve delivery issues, and communicate status updates to internal stakeholders.
  • Maintain supplier records, item master data, pricing history, and purchasing documentation in ERP, MRP, or CMMS systems.
  • Support inventory optimization by identifying obsolete, duplicate, slow-moving, or critical spare parts.
  • Assist accounts payable with invoice, pricing, receiving, and purchase order discrepancies.
  • Ensure purchasing activities support safety, quality, environmental, and operational compliance requirements.


Required Qualifications

  • High school diploma or equivalent required; associate or bachelor’s degree in business, supply chain, procurement, engineering, or a related field preferred.
  • 2 or more years of purchasing, procurement, inventory, maintenance, manufacturing, or supply chain experience preferred.
  • Experience buying MRO, indirect materials, spare parts, industrial supplies, or facility maintenance services strongly preferred.
  • Working knowledge of ERP, MRP, CMMS, or inventory management systems.
  • Ability to read purchase requests, quotes, invoices, packing slips, and basic technical or part information.
  • Strong attention to detail, organization, follow-through, and time management skills.
  • Effective communication and negotiation skills with suppliers and internal teams.
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office, especially Excel, Outlook, and Word.


Preferred Skills and Competencies

  • Knowledge of maintenance parts, production supplies, PPE, tooling, chemicals, or industrial equipment.
  • Ability to balance cost, quality, delivery, inventory availability, and operational urgency.
  • Analytical mindset with the ability to review spend, supplier performance, and inventory trends.
  • Problem-solving skills and comfort working in a fast-paced manufacturing or operations environment.
  • Commitment to continuous improvement, standardized purchasing processes, and strong supplier relationships.


Work Environment

This position may require time in office, warehouse, maintenance, and production areas. The MRO Buyer must be able to communicate with employees, suppliers, and cross-functional partners and may occasionally need to walk, stand, bend, or lift light materials depending on business needs.
