Position Overview
The Interim Plant Controller will oversee plant accounting and financial activities, including monthly close, product costing, financial reporting, internal controls, budgeting, capital projects, and operational reporting. This role will work closely with Plant/General Managers, peer Controllers, business leaders, and internal accounting teams.
Strong communication and the ability to work effectively with both finance and operational leadership are critical to success in this position.
This is a safety-sensitive position and will report to the Accounting Manager while providing oversight of accounting staff.
Key Responsibilities
- Prepare and record Product Costing journal entries to support the monthly financial close.
- Prepare and analyze month-end financial statements and key performance reports.
- Prepare property tax reports and coordinate related payments.
- Maintain and support Sarbanes-Oxley (SOX) documentation and internal controls.
- Manage reporting related to Natural Gas, Electricity, and Catalyst usage and costs.
- Track capital projects and related financial activity.
- Assist with internal and external audits.
- Support annual budget preparation and quarterly financial updates.
- Prepare ad hoc financial and operational reports as requested.
- Partner with operations and other departments to address accounting and financial questions.
- Work closely with General Managers, business leaders, peer Controllers, and plant personnel.
- Provide financial insight and support decision-making across the operation.
- Supervise and provide direction to Accountant and Senior Accountant staff.
- Help identify and resolve accounting issues, working effectively in situations that may require judgment and investigation.
- Support continuous improvement of accounting processes, controls, and reporting.
Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or related field.
- 5+ years of accounting experience within a plant/manufacturing environment.
- At least 1 year of supervisory or leadership experience.
- Strong understanding of manufacturing/plant accounting and financial controls.
- Experience working within a large, complex organization, preferably a public company.
- Strong knowledge of SOX/internal controls and financial reporting.
- Experience with SAP/S4HANA strongly preferred.
- Strong understanding of month-end close, journal entries, reconciliations, product costing, and financial analysis.
- Experience working with plant operations and business leadership.
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
- Ability to work independently, prioritize competing responsibilities, and operate effectively in a fast-paced environment.
- CPA preferred.
Ideal Candidate
The ideal candidate is a hands-on Plant Controller or Accounting Manager who understands both the accounting and operational sides of a manufacturing business. You should be comfortable digging into financial issues, explaining results to non-financial leaders, working through ambiguity, and partnering with plant leadership.
Because communication is such an important part of this position, we are looking for someone who can build strong relationships with GMs, peer Controllers, accounting teams, and business leaders while maintaining strong financial controls and accountability.
This is an excellent opportunity for an experienced Plant Controller who enjoys being a business partner and can quickly step into an interim leadership role.
