Job Title: Bench Scientist
Location: Groton, CT
Duration: 12+ months
- Description:
This position will be responsible for supporting drug discovery by performing in vitro experiments to assess the off-target pharmacology of novel compounds using both cellular and biochemical assays.
Responsibilities
- Work independently and as part of a team to help design, execute, analyze / interpret data generated from experiments from biochemical and in vitro cell-based assays. Specific duties to include:
- Apply scientific knowledge in running early in-vitro safety screening assays (384 well plate based; medium throughput) using a range of in vitro cell based, enzyme assays and transporter assays.
- Support screening efforts by performing aseptic cell culture work for multiple cell lines.
- Keep detailed experimental records and prepare study summaries and technical reports.
- Have a working knowledge of analysis tools such as Excel, GraphPad Prism, and PowerPoint for experimental documentation and data analysis/presentations.
- Contribute to building an innovative culture that embraces scientific excellence, urgency, partnerships with key stakeholders, continuous learning and improvement, increasing technical skill base and in vitro expertise.
Basic Qualifications
- Bachelor's degree plus 5 years pertinent laboratory experience in Pharmacology (or related field).
- Previous experience running cell/enzyme-based assay platforms in a medium to high throughput environment is required. Experience using plate-based instrumentation (liquid handling, fluorescent plate readers, plate-based scintillation counters)
- Cell culture experience
- Eagerness to learn new laboratory techniques
- Ability to work in fast paced environment and meet deadlines.
- Strong organizational, interpersonal and communication skills as well as ability to perform tasks with minimal supervision. Team player attitude is a must.
- Excellent time-management skills and ability to follow pre-established experimental designs and troubleshoot problems in an independent manner.
Preferred Qualifications
- Working knowledge of receptor pharmacology principles
- Experience with Molecular Devices FLIPR, Revvity Envision and Envision Nexus, Perkin Elmer Microbeta2 platforms
- Experience using Revity Signals Electronic Notebook.
