Position Overview:
The Senior Accountant will be a key member of the finance team, responsible for supporting the accuracy, integrity, and timely completion of the organization’s accounting and reporting activities. This position will have broad exposure across general accounting, payroll, financial reporting, technical accounting, internal controls, and other areas of the finance function.
The role will manage recurring accounting responsibilities while also supporting more complex transactions, reporting requirements, audits, and business initiatives. Working across Finance and other departments, the Senior Accountant will help maintain strong financial processes and controls while contributing to improvements as the organization and its accounting needs evolve.
Employment Type: Full-Time, Permanent
Work Schedule: Hybrid (3-4 Days In-Office, 1-2 Days Remote)
Base Salary: $115k - $135k
Key Responsibilities:
- Perform core general ledger accounting activities and support the timely completion of monthly, quarterly, and annual financial close processes.
- Prepare and review journal entries, account reconciliations, accruals, and supporting financial schedules, resolving discrepancies and unusual items as needed.
- Manage accounting activities associated with payroll and employee compensation, including related reconciliations, accruals, taxes, benefits, deductions, bonuses, and equity-based compensation.
- Work with internal teams and third-party providers to ensure payroll-related financial information is complete, accurate, and properly recorded.
- Contribute to internal and external financial reporting by preparing analyses, schedules, disclosures, and other supporting information.
- Support external audits, periodic reviews, and other financial reporting or compliance requirements.
- Assist with the accounting and documentation of complex or non-routine transactions, including areas such as leases, financing arrangements, equity compensation, revenue, and other business activities.
- Apply relevant accounting guidance and perform research when necessary to determine appropriate treatment for new transactions or circumstances.
- Maintain strong accounting documentation, policies, controls, and procedures and assist with activities related to internal control compliance.
- Partner with teams across the organization to understand business activity, obtain necessary financial information, and address accounting or reporting matters.
- Provide accounting support for operational accruals, expenses, revenue-related activities, and other transactions as applicable.
- Participate in finance and accounting projects involving systems, process enhancements, strategic transactions, or changes to business operations.
- Identify opportunities to strengthen accounting processes, improve efficiency, and support the continued development of the finance function.
Qualifications:
- Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related field.
- 4-7 years of progressive accounting experience with exposure to multiple areas of corporate accounting and financial reporting.
- Experience gained through public accounting, a publicly traded organization, or a combination of both.
- Strong understanding of GAAP and IFRS and the ability to apply accounting principles to financial transactions and reporting.
- Hands-on experience with payroll accounting and account reconciliation activities.
- Experience using ERP and financial reporting or close-management systems.
- Advanced Microsoft Excel skills.
- Strong analytical and problem-solving abilities with the ability to investigate financial information and resolve discrepancies.
- Demonstrated ability to produce accurate work, manage competing priorities, and meet established reporting deadlines.
- Strong communication and interpersonal skills with the ability to work effectively across departments.
- Ability to work independently, take ownership of assigned responsibilities, and appropriately handle confidential information.
- CPA or active progress toward CPA licensure preferred.
- Experience in a regulated or technically complex industry preferred.
- Exposure to public company reporting and related compliance requirements preferred.
- Experience with equity-based compensation accounting preferred.
- Knowledge of SOX or other financial control frameworks preferred.
- Experience supporting a growing or changing organization preferred.
- Big Four public accounting experience preferred.
