Position Overview
An established manufacturing organization in New Jersey is seeking an experienced Senior Accountant for a short-term contract assignment. This is an excellent opportunity for a hands-on accounting professional who can quickly step into a plant accounting environment and provide support across general accounting, month-end close, reconciliations, cash management, standard costing and financial reporting.
The Senior Accountant will work closely with the Plant Controller and play an important role in maintaining accurate financial records and supporting the day-to-day accounting operations of the facility.
Key Responsibilities
- Support the monthly financial close and preparation of financial statements.
- Prepare and post journal entries, accruals and prepaid expenses.
- Perform bank reconciliations, general ledger reconciliations and account analysis.
- Monitor daily cash activity and assist with cash forecasting.
- Reconcile accounts payable and accounts receivable subledgers to the general ledger.
- Assist with BOM standard cost roll-ups and manufacturing cost accounting activities.
- Track and report capital expenditures.
- Review invoice matching, account coding and payment activity.
- Prepare and reconcile intercompany/related-party transactions.
- Assist with vendor management and 1099 reporting.
- Support monthly sales and use tax filings and other required financial reporting.
- Prepare documentation for audits and work directly with external auditors.
- Partner closely with the Controller and plant leadership to ensure accurate and timely financial information.
These responsibilities closely reflect the original position, including cash management, capex, journal entries, AP/AR reconciliations, financial statement support, standard cost roll-ups, tax filings and external audit support.
Qualifications
- Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance or a related field.
- Approximately 3–5+ years of progressive accounting experience.
- Manufacturing accounting experience strongly preferred.
- Experience with standard costing and inventory/manufacturing accounting.
- Strong general ledger, reconciliation and month-end close experience.
- Strong Microsoft Excel skills.
- Experience with JD Edwards (JDE) is highly preferred.
- CPA or CPA-level experience is a plus, but not required.
- Ability to work independently, prioritize deadlines and quickly become productive in a contract environment.
- Strong communication skills with the ability to work effectively with accounting and operational teams.
The original role specifically calls for an accounting degree, 3–5 years of manufacturing accounting experience, strong Excel skills, and knowledge of JD Edwards and standard costing.
