Senior Manager, SEC & Technical Accounting | $150,000 to $200,000 + Bonus/Benefits

Location: Chicago, IL | Hybrid


Our client is a growing, well-established organization seeking a Senior Manager of SEC & Technical Accounting to join its corporate accounting team. This is a highly visible opportunity for an accounting professional who enjoys working at the intersection of technical accounting, financial reporting, and business strategy.


The Senior Manager will play a key role in ensuring the company’s financial reporting remains accurate, compliant, and aligned with U.S. GAAP and SEC requirements. This position will partner closely with senior finance leadership, external auditors, legal, FP&A, and operational teams while serving as a key resource on complex accounting matters.


What You’ll Do

  • Lead and oversee SEC financial reporting, including quarterly and annual filings and related disclosures.
  • Research, interpret, and implement new accounting standards and assess their impact on the organization.
  • Lead technical accounting analyses for complex transactions, including revenue recognition, leases, business combinations, equity transactions, and other non-routine matters.
  • Prepare and review technical accounting memorandums, accounting policies, and supporting documentation.
  • Partner with external auditors throughout the quarterly and annual audit process and serve as a key point of contact for technical accounting matters.
  • Monitor changes in SEC regulations, U.S. GAAP, and other financial reporting requirements and communicate relevant impacts to leadership.
  • Support the preparation and review of financial statements, footnotes, management disclosures, and other external reporting materials.
  • Collaborate cross-functionally with Finance, FP&A, Legal, Treasury, Tax, and operational leadership on accounting and reporting matters.
  • Identify opportunities to improve accounting policies, reporting processes, controls, and overall efficiency.
  • Provide guidance and mentorship to accounting team members and serve as a subject matter expert across the organization.


What We’re Looking For

  • Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related field.
  • CPA required.
  • 8+ years of progressive accounting experience with a strong background in technical accounting and financial reporting.
  • Strong SEC reporting experience, preferably within a public company environment.
  • Deep understanding of U.S. GAAP and experience researching and resolving complex accounting issues.
  • Experience preparing technical accounting memos and accounting policies.
  • Strong analytical, research, and problem-solving skills with the ability to translate complex accounting matters into clear business recommendations.
  • Excellent communication skills and the ability to work effectively with senior leadership and cross-functional stakeholders.
  • Big Four public accounting experience is highly preferred, particularly candidates with an audit or accounting advisory background.
