About the Role

We are seeking a Senior Project Engineer to join a respected general contractor delivering ground-up and major renovation projects across the Bay Area. This role supports project management and field teams throughout the full project lifecycle — from preconstruction through closeout — on commercial, mixed-use, life sciences, healthcare, or institutional projects. The ideal candidate is detail-oriented, technically strong, and ready to take on increasing project leadership responsibility, including mentoring junior engineers.

Key Responsibilities

  • Manage submittals, RFIs, and document control processes, ensuring timely turnaround and accurate tracking
  • Lead constructability reviews and coordinate resolution of design conflicts with architects and engineers
  • Support and help manage the subcontractor buyout process, including scope review and contract compilation
  • Assist in developing and maintaining project schedules in coordination with the project management and field teams
  • Track and manage project cost reports, change orders, and potential change order logs
  • Coordinate procurement and long-lead material tracking to support project schedules
  • Support quality control and quality assurance programs on-site
  • Assist with monthly owner billing and subcontractor pay applications
  • Participate in and help lead OAC (owner-architect-contractor) meetings and produce meeting minutes
  • Coordinate closeout documentation, including O&M manuals, warranties, and as-builts
  • Mentor and provide technical guidance to project engineers and interns
  • Ensure compliance with safety standards and support the project's overall safety program
  • Liaise with local jurisdictions on permitting, inspections, and code compliance specific to Bay Area municipalities

Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in Construction Management, Civil Engineering, Architecture, or related field
  • 5-8 years of experience as a Project Engineer with a commercial general contractor, with a track record of increasing responsibility
  • Experience on ground-up commercial, life sciences, healthcare, or large-scale tenant improvement projects in the Bay Area market
  • Strong working knowledge of Procore, Bluebeam, and scheduling software (Primavera P6 or MS Project)
  • Solid understanding of construction drawings, specifications, and building codes
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills
  • Strong organizational skills and ability to manage multiple priorities in a fast-paced environment
  • OSHA 30 certification (or willingness to obtain within first 90 days)

Preferred

  • Experience in life sciences/lab, healthcare, or podium/high-rise construction
  • Familiarity with Bay Area AHJs (San Francisco, Oakland, San Jose, Peninsula municipalities)
  • LEED accreditation
  • Prior experience mentoring or managing junior staff

Compensation & Benefits

  • Competitive base salary, commensurate with experience
  • Annual performance bonus program
  • Medical, dental, and vision insurance
  • 401(k) with company match
  • PTO and paid holidays
  • Career development and path toward Project Manager role
