Property Accountant | Chicago | $85,000 to $100,000 + Bonus/Benefits
I’m working with a Chicago-based real estate firm that is looking to add a Senior Property Accountant to its team.
This is a great opportunity for someone who enjoys the accounting side of real estate and wants to take ownership of a diverse portfolio of Class A properties across various asset types. The firm has a strong reputation in the market, and this role offers the opportunity to work with an experienced team while continuing to grow your real estate accounting career.
The Senior Property Accountant will be responsible for the day-to-day accounting and financial reporting for an assigned portfolio of properties, partnering closely with property managers, asset management, and ownership to ensure accurate and timely financial information.
Responsibilities:
- Manage the monthly and quarterly accounting close process for an assigned portfolio of properties.
- Prepare and review property-level financial statements, balance sheets, income statements, and cash flow reports.
- Perform monthly bank, balance sheet, and general ledger reconciliations.
- Record and review journal entries, accruals, prepaid expenses, and other property-level accounting activity.
- Analyze financial results and provide variance explanations to property managers and ownership.
- Work closely with property management teams to ensure accurate reporting of operating expenses, tenant activity, and other property-related transactions.
- Assist with annual budgets, reforecasts, and financial reporting packages.
- Review accounts payable, accounts receivable, and other supporting schedules for accuracy.
- Support the accounting and reporting needs of multiple asset types, including commercial, multifamily, industrial, and other real estate investments.
- Assist with year-end audits, tax support, and other financial reporting requirements.
- Identify opportunities to improve accounting processes, reporting accuracy, and overall efficiency.
Qualifications:
- Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related field.
- 3+ years of property accounting experience, ideally within a real estate investment, ownership, or property management environment.
- Strong understanding of property-level accounting, financial reporting, and month-end close.
- Experience working with multiple properties and asset types.
- Strong Excel skills and experience with accounting or property management software.
- Excellent attention to detail and ability to manage multiple priorities.
- Strong communication skills and the ability to work effectively with property managers, asset management, and other internal teams.
- CPA or CPA eligibility is a plus, but not required.
