Full job description

Position Summary

The Senior Transportation Insurance & Risk Specialist will manage day-to-day insurance and risk-compliance matters for a fast-paced last-mile transportation and logistics business with multiple operating entities, motor-carrier operations, third-party delivery service providers (DSPs) and contractors, warehouses, cargo exposure, and a mixed vehicle environment. The role is highly hands-on and will partner closely with Legal, Safety/DOT, Finance, Operations, brokers, carriers, and claims professionals to ensure that insurance coverage aligns with actual operations and contractual obligations.

This position is not limited to collecting certificates of insurance. The successful candidate will be expected to identify potential coverage gaps, verify endorsements and policy requirements, coordinate claims and renewals, support insurance-related contract reviews, and build practical compliance processes that can scale with the business.

Key Responsibilities

· Manage and coordinate the company's commercial insurance program, including Commercial Auto, Motor Truck Cargo, Commercial General Liability, Umbrella/Excess, Workers' Compensation, Property, Warehouse/Legal Liability, and other coverages as applicable.

· Review company operations, vehicle structures, contractor/DSP arrangements, warehouse activities, and customer/vendor requirements to identify potential insurance gaps or misalignment between actual operations and existing coverage.

· Coordinate commercial auto insurance matters involving owned, leased, hired, non-owned, contractor-operated, and other vehicles; maintain accurate vehicle and driver-related insurance information in coordination with Operations and Safety/DOT.

· Manage insurance renewals from exposure-data collection through broker marketing, coverage review, carrier negotiation support, loss-run review, policy placement, and final documentation.

· Coordinate claims involving auto, cargo, property, warehouse, general liability, workers' compensation, and other insured risks; ensure timely notice and tender to all potentially responsive insurers and contractual counterparties.

· Maintain an insurance matrix covering entities, policies, limits, deductibles, renewal dates, vehicles, warehouses, broker/carrier contacts, open claims, and third-party insurance compliance status.

· Develop and maintain practical internal procedures for COI/endorsement review, contractor onboarding, renewals, claims reporting, policy administration, and insurance documentation.

· Partner with Legal, Finance, Operations, Safety/DOT, and executive leadership to evaluate new business models, locations, vendors, transportation structures, and material operational changes from an insurance-risk perspective.

· Work directly with brokers and carriers while maintaining independent internal ownership of insurance requirements, documentation, and follow-through.

Required Qualifications

· 5+ years of commercial property and casualty insurance, corporate risk, brokerage, underwriting, or comparable in-house insurance experience; exceptional candidates with slightly less experience and strong technical depth may be considered.

· Strong working knowledge of commercial insurance coverage and policy structure, with the ability to review policies, endorsements, exclusions, limits, deductibles, and certificates of insurance rather than relying solely on broker summaries.

· Demonstrated experience managing commercial insurance renewals, claims, broker/carrier relationships, and third-party insurance compliance.

· Experience with Commercial Auto and/or transportation, trucking, delivery, logistics, cargo, fleet, or warehouse-related insurance exposure.

· Ability to identify insurance and operational risk issues, ask the right factual questions, and translate insurance requirements into practical business actions.

· Strong organizational skills and ability to manage multiple entities, policies, renewals, claims, vendors, and deadlines simultaneously.

· Professional fluency in Mandarin Chinese and English, including the ability to discuss insurance and operational issues with business teams in both languages.

· Strong written and verbal communication skills and sound judgment when working cross-functionally with Legal, Finance, Operations, Safety/DOT, brokers, carriers, and external partners.

Preferred Qualifications

· Direct experience with trucking, motor-carrier, last-mile delivery, fleet, 3PL, logistics, or warehouse insurance programs.

· Familiarity with FMCSA insurance requirements, MCS-90, BMC-91/BMC-91X filings, motor-carrier authority, and related financial-responsibility concepts.

· Experience with DSP, owner-operator, independent contractor, leased-vehicle, or similar transportation operating models.

· Experience reviewing additional insured, primary/non-contributory, waiver of subrogation, hired/non-owned auto, cargo, warehouse legal liability, and umbrella/excess requirements.

· Experience working in an in-house environment where insurance responsibilities intersect with Legal, Safety, Operations, Finance, and vendor management.

Reporting & Cross-Functional Relationships

This role will work closely with Legal and partner cross-functionally with Safety/DOT, Finance, Operations, HR, brokers, carriers, claims professionals, landlords, customers, DSPs, contractors, and other third parties. Final reporting line may be determined based on the selected candidate's background and organizational needs.

Compensation

Target base salary: $100,000-$120,000 per year, depending on experience, technical depth, transportation-industry knowledge, and overall qualifications. Benefits and other compensation are subject to the company's applicable plans and policies.

Equal Employment Opportunity
