Description of Role
We are seeking a high-caliber, strategic Senior Customs & Trade Consultant - U.S. to lead client engagements and drive operational excellence. This role is a balance of deep technical customs expertise and high-level project leadership. You will be responsible for interfacing with all levels of a client's organization, from senior executive management to operational teams, while building, maintaining, and growing long-term relationships.
As a Senior Consultant, you will not only interpret complex customs and trade regulations and apply them to client needs, but you will also support the sales cycle and contribute to the refinement of our Trade Advisory Services practice methodologies.
Principal Accountabilities & Duties
- New Account Onboarding: Serve as the primary point of contact for new clients during the transition phase, ensuring all documentation requirements, compliance and requirements are met.
- Customs Compliance: Review and validate import/export documentation to ensure compliance with U.S. Customs and Border Protection (CBP) and other government agency regulations.
- Process Setup: Collaborate with internal departments (sales, operations, IT) to configure account-specific workflows, EDI setups, and reporting tools.
- Client Training & Support: Educate clients on customs procedures, documentation requirements, and system usage to ensure a smooth start to their operations.
- Issue Resolution: Identify and resolve any issues that arise during the transition period, escalating complex matters as needed.
- Documentation & Recordkeeping: Maintain accurate records of all onboarding activities, including client communications, compliance checks, and system configurations.
- Continuous Improvement: Provide feedback to improve onboarding processes and enhance client experience.
- Integration Setup, Training and Support: Assist in data mapping for integrated solutions, account setup of proprietary integrated platforms, training and general support of our integrated client base.
- Client Contacts: Develop and nurture strategic relationships with key clients to drive long term growth and retention.
- Supervision – Oversee the administrative functions related to the management of staff: Direction of work, Time/Attendance, Performance Reviews, Train and Develop, Discipline, Coach and Mentor.
- All other duties as assigned
Knowledge and Educational Requirements
- High School Diploma (required)
- College or University Degree in Business Administration or Project Management (asset)
- Licensed U.S. Customs Broker (required)
- Certified Customs Specialist (asset)
- 5+ years of experience in customs brokerage, with a focus on client onboarding or account management
- Strong knowledge of U.S. import/export regulations and HTS classification
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills
- Proficiency in customs brokerage software and Microsoft Office Suite
- Strong organizational and project management abilities
- Ability to work independently and manage multiple priorities
