Staff Accountant
Location: New York, NY
Compensation: $80,000–$90,000 + Comprehensive Benefits
About the Opportunity
Our client is an award-winning engineering and environmental consulting firm with approximately 400 professionals across planning, engineering, design and environmental disciplines.
They are seeking a Staff Accountant to support general accounting, financial reporting and project-based accounting activities. This is an excellent opportunity for someone with a solid grounding in general ledger accounting who wants broader exposure to month-end close, revenue recognition, WIP and job costing within a respected professional-services firm.
Responsibilities
- Prepare and post journal entries, including accruals, prepaids and allocations.
- Review general ledger activity and identify transactions that have or have not been posted.
- Process and reconcile cash receipts and disbursements.
- Support monthly, quarterly and year-end close activities.
- Reconcile bank, balance-sheet and general ledger accounts.
- Assist with financial statement preparation and variance analysis.
- Support percentage-of-completion and time-and-materials revenue recognition.
- Review WIP, deferred revenue and project financial information.
- Work with Project Accountants to review budgets and project profitability.
- Support annual audits and tax-preparation processes.
- Maintain documentation supporting GAAP compliance and internal controls.
- Assist with ERP improvements, automation and accounting process enhancements.
Ideal Background
- Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance or a related field.
- Three to five years of accounting experience.
- Strong understanding of general accounting and general ledger processes.
- Experience preparing journal entries and completing account reconciliations.
- Knowledge of cash receipts, cash disbursements and month-end close.
- Understanding of revenue recognition, WIP or project/job costing.
- Professional services, engineering or consulting experience is advantageous.
- Deltek Vision, Vantagepoint or comparable ERP experience preferred.
- Advanced Excel skills, including pivot tables, lookups and data analysis.
- CPA or active CPA track beneficial but not required.
- Must be authorized to work in the United States without current or future sponsorship.
