Staff Accountant – Real Estate Property Accounting
Location: Englewood Cliffs, New Jersey
Compensation: $60,000 - 70,000

About the Role
A premier Northeast real estate management firm is seeking a Staff Accountant to join its team in Englewood Cliffs, New Jersey.
The successful candidate will be an organized and analytical accounting professional who communicates effectively and works well as part of a team. Training will be provided across the firm’s accounting systems, making this an excellent opportunity to develop specialized experience within real estate property accounting.
Key Responsibilities
- Prepare monthly accounting workpapers, financial statements and management reports
- Prepare, compile and process journal entries and other financial transactions
- Complete bank and balance-sheet account reconciliations
- Review and analyze selected general-ledger accounts
- Identify and resolve reconciling items and accounting issues on a timely basis
- Review invoices and expenditures to ensure expenses are properly classified and recorded
- Review tenant security deposits following move-outs and ensure the appropriate funds are refunded
- Prepare annual budgets for assigned properties
- Complete year-end close procedures and prepare supporting schedules
- Maintain accurate accounting records for an assigned portfolio of properties
- Support additional property-accounting and financial-reporting requirements as needed
Candidate Profile
- Bachelor’s degree in Accounting
- 1–2 years of accounting experience
- Strong written and verbal communication skills
- Strong analytical, organizational and problem-solving capabilities
- Ability to work effectively as part of a collaborative team
- Proficiency with Microsoft Excel and Outlook
- Ability to manage recurring deadlines and maintain accurate financial records
- Interest in developing a career within real estate or property accounting
- Experience with Yardi, MRI, Nexus Systems or IBS is preferred but not required.
