Transportation Clerk

Location: Hartford, CT

Compensation: $22.50/hour (approximately $46,800 annually)

Schedule: Monday–Friday, 7:00 AM until completion, with occasional weekend coverage and flexibility

Overview

A transportation and distribution operation is seeking a Transportation Clerk to support day-to-day activities within the transportation department. This role is responsible for coordinating administrative processes, maintaining regulatory compliance, supporting delivery associates, and providing operational assistance to supervisors and the wider transportation team.

Key Responsibilities

  • Gather, organize, and process daily driver documentation, including logs, manifests, vehicle inspections, and related paperwork
  • Maintain transportation records and support compliance with Department of Transportation (DOT) requirements
  • Answer incoming calls, route inquiries, and provide administrative support
  • Research operational issues and assist with identifying appropriate resolutions
  • Coordinate supply orders and liaise between office and transportation operations
  • Respond to delivery associate questions and provide support in resolving operational issues
  • Process inbound freight documentation on a weekly basis
  • Act as a primary point of contact for inbound freight-related issues
  • Prepare daily operational reports for supervisors, including observations and vehicle tracking information
  • Support manpower scheduling and other transportation administration
  • Perform additional duties as required by management

Requirements

Education

  • High school diploma or GED required

Experience

  • 2+ years of customer service experience preferred
  • 2+ years of experience in distribution, transportation, or a high-volume route delivery environment preferred

Additional Requirements

  • Valid driver's license and driving record meeting applicable company insurance requirements
  • Knowledge of DOT regulations
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills
  • Strong analytical, leadership, and problem-solving abilities
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Windows, Excel, and Word
  • Understanding of workforce/manpower scheduling
  • Ability to work effectively in a fast-paced operational environment

Physical Requirements

The role involves a combination of sitting, standing, walking, reaching, bending, kneeling, and other physical activities associated with a transportation and distribution environment. The position may require lifting up to 40 pounds and the ability to perform tasks requiring close and distance vision.
