Controller
Location: Santa Barbara, CA
About the Opportunity
We are partnering with a well-established and growing Consumer Products company to identify a Controller to lead its Finance & Accounting function.
This is a highly visible, hands-on leadership role that will work closely with the CEO and broader leadership team while overseeing a small accounting team.
The Controller will own the company’s core accounting and financial reporting activities while also playing a broader role in financial analysis, planning, business operations, and decision support.
This is an opportunity for someone who enjoys getting into the details but also wants to understand the business, interpret financial results, and help leadership make informed decisions.
Key Responsibilities
- Lead the company’s accounting and financial reporting functions
- Manage month-end and year-end close processes and ensure accurate and timely financial statements
- Oversee day-to-day accounting operations, including AP, AR, reconciliations, payroll, and commissions
- Manage cash flow reporting and support annual budgeting and quarterly forecasting
- Perform variance analysis and communicate the key drivers behind financial performance
- Coordinate internal and external audit activities
- Maintain appropriate internal controls, accounting policies, and GAAP compliance
- Lead and develop a small accounting team
- Partner cross-functionally to resolve accounting and financial issues and support business initiatives
- Identify and implement process improvements to increase efficiency, accuracy, and scalability within Finance
- Provide increasingly broader financial analysis and decision support to the CEO and leadership team
Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related field
- Strong GAAP and technical accounting foundation
- Prior experience in a financial leadership or accounting management role
- Experience within consumer products, apparel, retail, e-commerce, and/or wholesale
- Experience leading and developing accounting team members
- Ability to operate as a hands-on Controller and personally work through accounting issues when needed
- Strong financial reporting, variance analysis, and problem-solving skills
- Ability to translate financial results into meaningful business insights
- Strong communication skills with the ability to partner across departments
- NetSuite experience strongly preferred
- Strong Excel skills
