The Opportunity

Our client, a well-established owner and operator of premier retail real estate assets in the New York metro area, is seeking an experienced, hands-on Controller to lead its accounting and financial reporting function. The company recently welcomed a new CFO and is building out a stronger internal finance operation, reducing reliance on outside accounting support. This is a high-impact, in-office role reporting directly to the CFO, with real ownership over the accounting function during a period of active transition and growth.

Note this role works 5 days onsite.

What You'll Be Doing

• Lead the transition from cash-basis to full accrual-basis monthly financial reporting, including designing the close process, closing calendar, and standardized reporting package at both the property and consolidated level.
• Direct all core accounting operations, including general ledger, AP/AR, cash management, payroll oversight, fixed assets, and multi-entity/partnership financial statements.
• Oversee commercial real estate specific accounting, including retail lease administration, tenant improvement allowances, and leasing commissions.
• Lead the annual budgeting and forecasting process, managing banking and treasury relationships, monitoring debt compliance, and coordinating audit and tax activity with external partners, while supervising and developing a small accounting team.

Who You Are

• 10+ years of progressive accounting experience, including at least 5 years in a senior accounting management role.
• Experience helping transition an organization from a cash basis accounting environment to an accrual-based model.
