Controller, Full-Time Engagement Professional (FTEP)

About the Opportunity

Robert Half's Full-Time Engagement Professionals (FTEP) program offers accounting and finance professionals the stability of full-time employment combined with the variety of project-based consulting work. As a Controller within the FTEP program, you will begin your first assignment supporting a growing consumer goods organization located in Middlesex County, NJ.

This role is ideal for a hands-on Controller who can step into a fast-paced environment, drive accounting operations, and provide leadership through critical financial initiatives.

Key Responsibilities

• Lead the month-end, quarter-end, and year-end close process
• Oversee general ledger, account reconciliations, and financial statement preparation
• Manage daily accounting operations, including accounts payable, accounts receivable, payroll, and inventory accounting
• Ensure accuracy and compliance with GAAP and company policies
• Review and approve journal entries and balance sheet reconciliations
• Analyze financial results and provide reporting to executive leadership
• Support budgeting, forecasting, and cash flow management activities
• Partner with operations and supply chain teams on inventory controls and cost accounting initiatives
• Coordinate external audits and tax-related requests
• Identify opportunities to improve processes, controls, and reporting efficiencies
• Mentor and develop accounting staff as needed

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, or related field
• 7+ years of progressive accounting and finance experience
• Prior Controller, Assistant Controller, or Accounting Manager experience required
• Strong knowledge of GAAP and financial reporting
• Experience within consumer goods, manufacturing, distribution, or inventory-intensive environments preferred
• Advanced ERP system experience required
• Strong proficiency with Microsoft Excel
• Ability to quickly assess processes, identify risks, and implement solutions
• Excellent communication and stakeholder management skills
