Full job description

Onward Education is partnering with a local school district in Cook County, Illinois to hire a Deaf and Hard of Hearing (DHH) Teacher for the 2026–2027 school year. This educator will support students who are deaf or hard of hearing by delivering accessible instruction and strengthening communication, language, academic, and social-emotional skills in collaboration with the school team and families.


The DHH Teacher provides specialized instruction and accommodations for students with hearing loss, helping ensure full access to the curriculum. This may include supporting sign language use, assistive hearing technology, and/or oral communication approaches, depending on student needs and programming.


Position Details:

  • Role: Deaf and Hard of Hearing Teacher (DHH)
  • Setting: On-site
  • Location: Cook County, IL
  • Schedule: 20 hours/week (part-time)


Responsibilities:

  • Provide individualized and/or small-group instruction aligned to IEP goals for students who are deaf/hard of hearing.
  • Support students’ communication development (may include sign language, oral communication support, and/or total communication approaches as appropriate).
  • Help ensure access to instruction through accommodations and modifications, visual supports, and accessible materials.
  • Collaborate with general education teachers, special education team members, service providers, and families to support student progress.
  • Support use of assistive technology and classroom strategies that reduce communication barriers.
  • Participate in team meetings and documentation aligned to district expectations (IEP support, progress monitoring, etc.).


Qualifications:

  • Illinois Professional Educator License (PEL)
  • DHH endorsement (Deaf/Hard of Hearing)
