Company:

A global technology and advanced manufacturing organization is continuing to expand its corporate accounting infrastructure as it prepares for its next stage of growth. The business operates across complex international markets and is investing in scalable processes, controls, systems, and technical accounting capabilities to support increasingly sophisticated reporting requirements and future public-company readiness.

Purpose Of Your Position:

The Director Revenue Accounting will lead the development of the organization’s revenue accounting function and serve as the internal subject matter expert for complex revenue recognition matters. This newly created position will initially operate as a highly visible individual contributor with significant cross-functional exposure, with plans to add a direct report as the function grows. The role will be instrumental in establishing scalable revenue processes, policies, controls, and systems while supporting broader public-company readiness initiatives.

Primary Responsibilities:

  • Serve as the technical accounting lead for complex revenue arrangements under ASC 606 and IFRS 15, including preparation of supporting accounting analyses and position papers.
  • Evaluate customer agreements, channel programs, and other commercial arrangements to determine appropriate revenue recognition treatment.
  • Provide technical guidance on areas including variable consideration, standalone selling price assessments, material rights, reserves, and distributor-related accounting.
  • Establish and scale the revenue accounting function, including policies, procedures, controls, governance, and documentation standards.
  • Partner closely with Sales, Legal, FP&A, Operations, Supply Chain, and IT to incorporate appropriate accounting considerations into commercial and operational processes.
  • Drive improvements across the revenue lifecycle, including contract review, order-to-cash activities, reserve methodologies, close procedures, and automation.
  • Participate in CRM, ERP, and related systems initiatives to ensure revenue requirements and appropriate financial controls are incorporated into system design.
  • Lead revenue-related quarterly and annual close activities, including analytical reviews, reserve assessments, supporting documentation, and audit requests.
  • Coordinate directly with external auditors on technical revenue matters and supporting accounting conclusions.
  • Monitor changes in U.S. GAAP and IFRS guidance and determine the potential impact on the organization’s revenue accounting practices.
  • Develop revenue accounting policies, procedures, training materials, and other resources to support consistent application across the business.
  • Support the development of public-company-ready revenue reporting, disclosure, and internal control processes.
  • Recruit, mentor, and develop additional revenue accounting resources as the function expands.

Requirements:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related field.
  • Active CPA required.
  • 8+ years of progressive accounting experience, including experience with a Big Four or other national public accounting firm.
  • Current or recent experience within a public-company accounting environment, including direct involvement with IPO preparation or implementation of public-company-ready processes.
  • Experience within manufacturing, hardware, or another product-oriented business environment.
  • Advanced technical knowledge of ASC 606 and IFRS 15, including complex contract structures, variable consideration, material rights, standalone selling price analysis, and channel/distributor arrangements.
  • Demonstrated experience developing or significantly improving revenue accounting processes, controls, policies, and supporting infrastructure.
  • Experience operating within a complex global organization and partnering across multiple business functions.
  • Ability to work independently, establish structure in a developing environment, and build processes from the ground up.
  • Prior team leadership or people management experience preferred.
  • Experience with SOX controls, revenue-related financial statement disclosures, and large-scale ERP or revenue systems implementations preferred.
  • SAP S/4HANA experience is a plus.
