Our client is a growing financial services organization that provides outsourced accounting and operational support to investment managers across a variety of alternative investment strategies. Our client is seeking a Fund Accounting Manager – Private Markets to join their team.

Salary/Hourly Rate

$125k - $135k

Position Overview

The Fund Accounting Manager – Private Markets will oversee the accounting and reporting functions for a portfolio of alternative investment clients. This individual will serve as a key point of contact for clients while leading a team responsible for financial reporting, investor activity, and ongoing fund accounting operations.

The ideal Fund Accounting Manager – Private Markets will bring a strong private markets accounting background and be comfortable operating in a hands-on review capacity. This position is well suited for an experienced fund accounting professional who can independently manage complex engagements, develop junior staff, identify and resolve accounting issues, and communicate effectively with clients and external service providers.

Responsibilities Of The Fund Accounting Manager – Private Markets

  • Lead the accounting and reporting process for multiple alternative investment fund engagements.
  • Review financial statements, general ledger activity, reconciliations, supporting schedules, and accounting workpapers.
  • Review investor capital activity, including capital calls, distributions, and related allocation calculations.
  • Review realized and unrealized investment allocation and waterfall calculations.
  • Interpret partnership agreements and other fund documentation to ensure accounting and allocations are consistent with applicable terms.
  • Oversee recurring and ad hoc reporting requirements, including performance calculations and investor-related deliverables.
  • Serve as a primary accounting contact for assigned clients and respond to technical and operational inquiries.
  • Coordinate with external auditors, tax professionals, legal counsel, banks, and other third-party service providers.
  • Support the onboarding and transition of new investment vehicles, entities, and investor relationships.
  • Review work completed by accounting staff and provide technical guidance, training, and ongoing development.
  • Manage competing client deadlines while maintaining a high level of accuracy and service.
  • Identify opportunities to improve accounting processes, controls, and workflow efficiency.

Required Experience/Skills For The Fund Accounting Manager – Private Markets

  • 7+ years of progressive fund accounting, alternative investments, or fund administration experience.
  • Strong experience with one or more private-market asset classes, including private equity, venture capital, private credit, real estate, or infrastructure.
  • Prior experience reviewing the work of Fund Accountants and/or Senior Fund Accountants.
  • Demonstrated knowledge of capital calls, distributions, partner allocations, and fund-level financial reporting.
  • Experience reviewing and interpreting partnership agreements and other investment-fund governing documents.
  • Strong understanding of realized and unrealized waterfall calculations.
  • Experience managing multiple funds, entities, or client engagements simultaneously.
  • Strong client-facing communication and relationship-management skills.
  • Advanced Excel skills and strong overall technical accounting aptitude.
  • Ability to work effectively in a deadline-driven environment.

Preferred Experience/Skills For The Fund Accounting Manager – Private Markets

  • Previous experience working for a third-party fund administrator.
  • Experience supervising, mentoring, or formally managing fund accounting professionals.
  • Investran experience or experience with comparable fund accounting platforms.
  • Experience supporting private equity and/or private credit fund structures.
  • Exposure to fund launches, conversions, or client onboarding.
  • Experience coordinating year-end audits and tax-related requests.

Education Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related discipline required.
