Full job description
We are seeking an experienced Health Information Management (HIM) Operations Manager to provide onsite leadership and operational oversight for HIM functions across multiple acute care hospital facilities. This role is responsible for optimizing medical records operations, driving Revenue Cycle performance, improving documentation workflows, and leading a team dedicated to ensuring timely and accurate record completion.
The HIM Operations Manager will serve as a key operational leader, partnering with Revenue Cycle, Coding, Clinical Documentation, and hospital leadership teams to improve performance, streamline processes, and support organizational goals.
Key Responsibilities
- Lead daily HIM operations across multiple acute care facilities.
- Supervise and develop a team of approximately 15 HIM professionals.
- Drive process improvement initiatives that enhance operational efficiency and Revenue Cycle performance.
- Oversee Discharged Not Final Billed (DNFB) accounts and work to reduce barriers impacting coding and billing timelines.
- Manage chart analysis, deficiency management, document imaging, and medical records workflows.
- Monitor departmental KPIs and implement corrective actions to improve performance.
- Collaborate with Coding, CDI, Patient Financial Services, and other stakeholders to optimize workflow and reimbursement outcomes.
- Ensure compliance with federal, state, regulatory, and organizational requirements.
- Provide coaching, mentoring, and performance management to staff.
- Support continuous improvement efforts focused on quality, productivity, and customer service.
Required Qualifications
- Supervisory or management experience within Health Information Management, Medical Records, or a related healthcare operations environment.
- Experience working in an acute care hospital setting.
- Strong knowledge of medical records operations, documentation workflows, and Revenue Cycle processes.
- Proven leadership experience with the ability to manage teams and operational performance.
- Strong analytical, organizational, and communication skills.
- Ability to work primarily onsite and provide hands-on operational leadership.
Preferred Qualifications
- RHIT (Registered Health Information Technician) or RHIA (Registered Health Information Administrator) certification preferred, but not required.
- Experience with Release of Information (ROI) processes.
- Experience working in a unionized environment.
- Multi-site healthcare operations experience.
- Familiarity with DNFB management, chart analysis, and deficiency management workflows.
Schedule
- Monday through Friday
- Typical hours: 8:00 AM to 5:00 PM, with flexibility as needed to support operational needs
