Position Summary

A national professional association is seeking a Librarian & Archivist for a temporary position supporting its Library and Archives team. This role will assist with archival processing, arrangement, and description of both physical and digital materials, while also providing reference, research, and outreach support


Following an initial training and transition period, this individual will be expected to work independently, manage day-to-day priorities, and provide a high level of research and library support to internal staff, members, and affiliated organizations


The role is based in Chicago and requires on-site work.


Duties & Responsibilities

  • Process physical and digital archival records using established arrangement and description standards.
  • Organize, arrange, and describe archival collections.
  • Update research guides and finding aids for unprocessed materials and additions to existing collections.
  • Rehouse physical materials into appropriate archival folders and boxes.
  • Fulfill archival and library reference requests from members, internal staff, and affiliated organizations.
  • Conduct complex research using library databases, authoritative sources, and other research tools.
  • Maintain website bibliographies, research guides, and resource pages.
  • Assist with general library, archives, and outreach needs as required.
  • Perform other related duties as assigned.


Qualifications

  • Master’s degree in Library Science, Information Science, or a related discipline from an ALA-accredited graduate program.
  • Knowledge, professional experience, or relevant coursework in archival processing, reference services, and outreach.
  • Interest in business, organizational, or institutional archives.
  • Familiarity with archival standards, including DACS, preferred.
  • Experience working with library management systems.
  • Strong research and reference skills, including the ability to independently respond to a variety of information requests.
  • Strong organizational and project-management skills with the ability to prioritize competing responsibilities.
  • Excellent attention to detail and the ability to remain focused while completing repetitive, detail-oriented work.
  • Collaborative working style with the ability to operate independently following initial guidance.
  • Strong professional written and verbal communication skills.
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office and general computer applications.


This is a contract role starting in October and running through the end of 2026.
