Full job description

Project Executive | Mechanical Construction Management, BAY AREA, CALIFORNIA

Why has the role come about?

Following continued growth in secured project work and an expanding pipeline of complex construction projects, an opportunity now exists for an experienced Project Executive to join a market-leading construction management firm delivering projects across the Bay Area.

The Company

An employee-owned mechanical engineering and construction firm with over 110 years in business, this organisation delivers design-build, design-assist, and plan-and-spec projects across Northern California and Nevada's commercial, institutional, and industrial markets — including hospitals, semiconductor manufacturing plants, federal laboratories, pharma manufacturing facilities, tribal gaming, and high-rise hotels/condominiums. Successful Project Executives are given direct leadership of a team of Project Managers and Project Engineers, real influence over which projects the business pursues, and a genuine stake in the financial outcome of the work they lead. Backed by an established estimating and engineering function and long-standing relationships with GCs, owners, and architects, this is an environment for someone who wants to shape both project delivery and business growth, with a clear path into senior operations leadership.

Role & Responsibilities

You will lead a group of Project Managers and Project Engineers, with ultimate responsibility for the financial and operational outcome of every project pursued and executed by your team.

You will:

  • Ensure all contractual commitments are met and client expectations are met or exceeded.
  • Review labor productivity and job cost progress, and monitor subcontractor performance across projects.
  • Provide constructability, technical, and change management guidance to project teams.
  • Mentor and develop Project Managers and Project Engineers on best practices.
  • Lead marketing efforts for the business, feeding upcoming project pursuits and new client acquisition.
  • Work with the estimating team on budgets, estimate updates, and final pricing.
  • Own final proposal language and lead contract negotiations and terms.
  • Work directly with engineering on design-build and design-assist project setup.
  • Promote the business to owners, developers, GCs, and architects through trade shows and industry organisations.

People Requirements

To be successful in this position, you will ideally have:

  • 10-15 years' experience in project management within construction.
  • Proficiency in budget creation/management, scheduling, estimating, preconstruction, and construction management.
  • Excellent computer proficiency in Microsoft Office and Bluebeam, plus familiarity with project management software such as Primavera (P6), Microsoft Project, Procore, Prolog, or Vista by Viewpoint.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills, comfortable working with clients, senior engineers, detailers, and union personnel.
  • A 4-year degree in construction management or mechanical engineering preferred (high school diploma/GED required).
  • Prior exposure to estimating or engineering departments is a plus, though not required.

In return, you will receive:

  • Base Salary: $165,000 - $190,000
  • Full-time, exempt position
