Title: Senior Accountant

Reports to: Director of Finance


We are a leading construction management firm with approximately $100 million in annual revenue and a diverse portfolio of clients. Our projects include state and city agencies, K-12 and higher education, healthcare institutions, commercial developments, and other complex construction management engagements.


Our accounting department is experienced, collaborative, and highly respected. As we continue to grow, we are focused on improving processes, leveraging technology, and creating a more efficient month-end close. We are seeking a Senior Accountant who enjoys taking on ownership and becoming a key contributor to the finance team.


Summary/Objective

The Senior Accountant will play a critical role in the accounting department by owning much of the monthly financial close process while supporting day-to-day accounting operations. This individual will work effectively with the Controller, CFO and team members to ensure accurate financial reporting and maintain strong internal controls.

We are seeking an experienced accountant who is collaborative and adaptable. Essential Functions:

Monthly Closeout and General Ledger

· Own and coordinate much of the monthly financial close process.

· Prepare and post journal entries.

· Perform general ledger account reconciliations and investigate variances.

· Prepare monthly accruals, prepaids, allocations, and recurring entries.

· Reconcile bank accounts, credit cards, payroll, and other balance sheet accounts.

· Assist with monthly financial statement preparation and supporting schedules.

· Ensure timely and accurate completion of assigned close responsibilities.

· Recommend opportunities to shorten and improve the month-end close process.

Financial Reporting

· Prepare supporting schedules for monthly management reporting.

· Analyze income statement and balance sheet fluctuations.

· Assist with monthly and year-end financial reporting.

· Help maintain accounting policies and documentation.

Operational Accounting Support

· When monthly close responsibilities are complete, assist with:

· Client billing and invoicing

· Accounts receivable and collections support

· Accounts payable processing and vendor inquiries

· Job cost accounting support

· General accounting projects as assigned

Audit and Compliance

· Prepare audit support documentation and respond to auditor requests.

· Assist with internal control documentation and process improvements.

· Support client job and company reporting and compliance requirements.

Process Improvement and Technology

· Identify opportunities to automate manual accounting processes.

· Partner with the Controller and CFO on accounting process improvements.

· Assist with future accounting system enhancements or ERP implementations.

· Help document and standardize accounting procedures.

Requirements

· Bachelor’s degree in accounting or finance.

· 5+ years of progressive accounting experience.

· Strong general ledger and month-end close experience.

· Experience preparing journal entries and balance sheet reconciliations.

· Strong understanding of GAAP.

· Excellent analytical and problem-solving skills.

· Advanced Microsoft Excel skills, including PivotTables, XLOOKUP, and SUMIFS.

· Strong organizational skills with exceptional attention to detail.

· Ability to prioritize multiple deadlines in a fast-paced environment.

· Excellent written and verbal communication skills.

· Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite.

· Opportunity to work remote 1 day/week based on performance and company needs.

Preferred Qualifications

· Construction, engineering, architecture, or professional services industry experience.

· Experience with Sage CRE 300.

· Experience participating in an ERP or accounting system implementation or migration.

· CPA or CPA candidates are a plus.

Supervisory Responsibility

This position has no direct supervisory responsibilities. This position has the potential to grow into an Assistant Controller or Accounting Manager role as the company continues to expand.

Work Environment

This job operates in a professional office environment. This role routinely uses standard office equipment such as computers, phones, photocopiers, filing cabinets and fax machines.

Physical Demands

The physical demands described here are representative of those that must be met by an employee to successfully perform the essential functions of this job.

While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to talk or listen.

This is largely a sedentary role; however, some filing is required.

This would require the ability to lift files, open filing cabinets and bend or stand on a stool, as necessary.

Travel

Little to no travel is expected for this position.

Required Education and Experience

· Bachelor’s degree in accounting or finance.

· 5+ years of progressive accounting experience.

· Strong general ledger and month-end close ownership experience.

· Experience preparing journal entries, balance sheet reconciliations, analyzing variances and financial reporting.

· Strong understanding of GAAP.
