Mechanical & Electrical Superintendents – Life Sciences Construction
Location: Kankakee, IL
Duration: 12-Month Contract – Highly Likely to Extend or Convert to Direct Hire
Schedule: Full-Time | Onsite
Per Diem: Available for eligible non-local candidates
Position Overview:
We are seeking experienced Mechanical and Electrical Superintendents to support a major life sciences/pharmaceutical construction project in Kankakee, Illinois.
These are field-focused leadership positions responsible for overseeing the safe, timely, and high-quality execution of mechanical or electrical scopes. The ideal candidates will have experience working for a General Contractor or EPC organization on large, complex construction projects.
Experience within pharmaceutical/life sciences is highly preferred; however, candidates coming from semiconductor, data center, advanced manufacturing, or large-scale industrial environments are also encouraged to apply.
Key Responsibilities
- Provide day-to-day field leadership for assigned mechanical or electrical construction scopes
- Coordinate subcontractors, trade partners, vendors, and other project stakeholders
- Monitor installation activities for compliance with drawings, specifications, quality standards, and project requirements
- Manage short-term planning and 3-week look-ahead schedules to maintain project milestones
- Identify field conflicts and constructability issues and coordinate resolution through RFIs and project teams
- Conduct field inspections and support QA/QC activities, testing, punch-list completion, commissioning, and turnover
- Monitor subcontractor productivity, manpower, material deliveries, and progress
- Participate in coordination meetings and communicate progress, constraints, and upcoming activities
- Maintain a strong field presence and ensure compliance with project safety and HSE requirements
- Coordinate across mechanical, electrical, structural, architectural, and other disciplines as required
Mechanical Superintendent Focus
Relevant experience may include:
- Mechanical and process piping
- HVAC and mechanical equipment
- Process and facility utility systems
- Equipment installation and associated piping
- Testing, inspections, hydrotesting, and mechanical completion
- Mechanical subcontractor and trade supervision
Electrical Superintendent Focus
Relevant experience may include:
- Electrical power distribution
- Switchgear and transformers
- Medium- and low-voltage systems
- MCCs and electrical equipment
- Generators and emergency/backup power
- Controls and instrumentation
- Electrical testing, commissioning, and turnover
Qualifications
- 10+ years of construction experience with significant field leadership responsibility
- Previous Superintendent, Construction Supervisor, Field Superintendent, or similar experience
- Experience supporting large-scale construction projects, ideally $30M+
- Strong background managing subcontractors and field trade execution
- OSHA 30 required
- Ability to interpret construction drawings, specifications, schedules, and contract documents
- Experience with QA/QC, inspections, testing, commissioning, and turnover
- EPC or General Contractor experience strongly preferred
- Pharmaceutical, biopharma, life sciences, or GMP project experience highly desirable
- Semiconductor, data center, advanced manufacturing, and complex industrial construction backgrounds will also be considered
