Title: Assistant Controller (or possibly Controller, depending on experience)


Location: Long Island, NY (100% in office, not hybrid/remote)


Salary: $140k - $150k base, plus bonus and full benefits package


We are seeking an experienced Assistant Controller or Controller, depending on experience, to lead the accounting and financial reporting function for an established organization. This position will oversee day-to-day accounting activities while partnering with leadership on financial performance, budgeting, cost management, and business planning.


Key Responsibilities

  • Oversee monthly close, financial reporting, reconciliations, and general accounting activities.
  • Manage core accounting functions and ensure accuracy and timeliness of financial information.
  • Provide financial analysis and reporting to senior leadership.
  • Lead budgeting, forecasting, and variance analysis.
  • Maintain appropriate internal controls and ensure compliance with GAAP.
  • Oversee cash flow, expenditures, and other key financial activities.
  • Partner with operational teams to better understand costs, margins, and business performance.
  • Support inventory and operational accounting activities.
  • Coordinate annual audits and other financial reporting requirements.
  • Lead, develop, and support accounting team members.
  • Identify opportunities to improve accounting processes, systems, and reporting.


Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or related field.
  • Approximately 8+ years of progressive accounting experience.
  • Prior experience leading or managing an accounting function.
  • Strong cost accounting experience within a manufacturing, production, or similarly operational environment.
  • Strong understanding of GAAP and financial reporting.
  • Experience with budgeting, forecasting, and financial analysis.
  • Experience working with ERP/accounting systems and advanced Excel skills.
  • Strong analytical, organizational, and communication skills.
  • CPA preferred but not required.

The successful candidate will combine strong technical accounting capabilities with hands-on experience supporting an operationally focused business. Experience analyzing product or production-related costs, inventory, margins, and operating performance will be particularly valuable.
