Assistant Controller

Long Island, NY | Hybrid Schedule

We are partnering with a publicly traded real estate investment trust (REIT) to identify an Assistant Controller who will play a key leadership role within the corporate accounting and financial reporting function. This position offers significant visibility to senior leadership and the opportunity to help drive the continued growth of a well-capitalized, acquisitive real estate platform.

The ideal candidate will bring a strong foundation in public accounting and public company reporting, along with the desire to take on increasing responsibility within a dynamic and collaborative environment.

Key Responsibilities

* Assist in the preparation and review of SEC filings, including Forms 10-Q, 10-K, 8-K, and related disclosures

* Support monthly, quarterly, and annual close processes

* Prepare and review consolidated financial statements and supporting schedules

* Assist with technical accounting research and implementation of new accounting standards

* Coordinate with external auditors and other third-party advisors

* Oversee general ledger activity, account reconciliations, and internal controls

* Partner with finance, operations, tax, and executive leadership on various strategic initiatives

* Support acquisition accounting and integration activities as the company continues to grow

* Mentor and develop members of the accounting team

Qualifications

* CPA required

* Bachelor’s degree in Accounting or related field

* 7+ years of progressive accounting experience

* Big Four or large public accounting experience strongly preferred

* Public company reporting experience required

* Real estate, REIT, or related industry experience preferred

* Strong understanding of U.S. GAAP and SEC reporting requirements

* Excellent communication and leadership skills

* Advanced Excel skills and experience with financial reporting systems
