Position Summary
Fenagh Engineering & Testing is seeking a highly motivated and experienced Certified Welding Inspector (CWI) to join our growing team in the Los Angeles Metropolitan Area. The successful candidate will perform welding inspections, quality assurance evaluations, and code compliance verification on a variety of structural steel, infrastructure, commercial, and industrial projects. This position requires extensive field work, strong technical knowledge of welding standards, and excellent communication skills.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities
- Perform visual welding inspections in accordance with project specifications, contract documents, and applicable codes.
- Verify welding procedures, welder qualifications, and fabrication practices.
- Conduct inspections of structural steel fabrication and erection activities.
- Review Welding Procedure Specifications (WPS), Procedure Qualification Records (PQR), and Welder Performance Qualification (WPQ) records.
- Monitor welding operations to ensure compliance with AWS, AISC, ASTM, and project-specific requirements.
- Document inspection findings and prepare detailed inspection reports.
- Coordinate with project managers, contractors, engineers, fabricators, and owners regarding inspection results and corrective actions.
- Evaluate weld discontinuities and recommend corrective measures.
- Witness and document nondestructive testing (NDT) activities as required.
- Maintain accurate records and ensure timely submission of reports.
- Attend project meetings and provide technical guidance related to welding quality control.
- Ensure compliance with company safety policies and OSHA regulations.
Required Qualifications
- Current AWS Certified Welding Inspector (CWI) certification.
- Minimum of 3 years of welding inspection experience in structural steel, construction, fabrication, or related industries.
- Thorough knowledge of:
- AWS D1.1 Structural Welding Code – Steel
- AWS D1.5 Bridge Welding Code
- AISC requirements
- Applicable ASTM standards
- ICC Special Inspection requirements
- Ability to read and interpret engineering drawings, specifications, and welding symbols.
- Strong written and verbal communication skills.
- Proficient with Microsoft Office applications and digital reporting software.
- Valid California Driver's License with a satisfactory driving record.
- Ability to travel throughout the Los Angeles Metropolitan Area and surrounding regions.
