Full job description

About the Role

A. Autiello Construction Co. is seeking a highly motivated, field-proven Commercial Construction Superintendent to lead on-site operations for our technical commercial projects across New England. In this role, you will be the absolute authority on the job site—responsible for day-to-day field management, safety compliance, subcontractor coordination, and schedule enforcement. You will translate blueprints and project plans into high-quality, physical reality, ensuring every project is delivered safely, on time, and built to the rigid technical standards our clients expect.

Ideal Candidate Background

We are looking for a self-motivated, process-driven field leader who thrives in highly specialized and complex building environments. The ideal candidate has direct experience running job sites within the Academic, Life Sciences / Clinical Medical, or Industrial process / Manufacturing sectors. You must possess a deep understanding of structural, mechanical, and architectural systems, alongside the leadership presence required to command a site, hold subcontractors accountable, and solve field issues aggressively before they delay progress.

Key Responsibilities

On-Site Leadership & Field Operations

  • Direct all daily field activities, managing the logistics, staging, and execution sequences of multiple trades.
  • Enforce and adhere to Commercial Construction Standard Operating Procedures, strictly coordinating with the Project Manager on RFIs, Submittals, Change Orders, and Inspection requests.
  • Maintain an immaculate, organized, and professional job site that reflects AACC’s reputation for excellence.
  • Oversee projects across our geographic footprint, managing local field sites within New England and our core target areas.

Schedule Enforcement & Micro-Scheduling

  • Partner with the Project Manager to execute the master project schedule created in Primavera or MS Project.
  • Develop and manage look-ahead schedules (3-week and 6-week short interval schedules) to dictate field workflow and prevent bottlenecks.
  • Coordinate material deliveries, equipment rentals, and inspections to guarantee the critical path of construction is never compromised.
  • Manage labor logistics seamlessly, directing both union labor partnerships and merit-based subcontractors to maximize site efficiency.

Safety, Quality Control & Inspection Compliance

  • Serve as the primary Site Safety Officer, enforcing strict OSHA compliance, company safety policies, and site-specific hazard plans.
  • Conduct daily safety toolboxes, routine site walkthroughs, and immediately address or eliminate any unsafe practices or carelessness.
  • Conduct continuous quality control inspections to ensure all installations exactly match contract documents, approved shop drawings, and code requirements.
  • Coordinate with municipal inspectors, third-party testing agencies, and owner representatives for mandatory structural and MEP sign-offs.

Communication & Documentation

  • Maintain accurate, exhaustive daily field logs documenting site progress, weather, manpower counts, material deliveries, and verbal directives.
  • Lead weekly on-site subcontractor coordination meetings to align trade leads on safety, schedule targets, and logistical changes.
  • Partner closely with Project Managers and Architects/Engineers to rapidly resolve design discrepancies in the field.

Skills and Attributes

  • Field Command: Exceptional leadership capability with the confidence to manage diverse project stakeholders and hold crews to high performance standards.
  • Blueprint Proficiency: Expert-level ability to read and interpret complex architectural, structural, civil, mechanical, electrical, and plumbing (MEP) drawings.
  • Rigid Accountability: A zero-tolerance policy for laziness, messiness, or safety violations on-site.
  • Tech Savvy: Strong comfort utilizing tablet / computer-based project management and documentation apps (Procore) for reporting daily logs and photos.
  • Problem-Solving: A proactive, quick-thinking builder who resolves physical construction conflicts logically and with minimal impact on cost or schedule.

Qualifications

  • 3–5+ years of dedicated experience as a Superintendent, Foreman, or Small Contractor in commercial construction.
  • Proven field track record successfully running projects specifically within the Academic, Life Sciences / Clinical Medical, and/or Industrial process / Manufacturing sectors.
  • Comprehensive knowledge of structural building methods, building codes, and advanced MEP systems.
  • OSHA 10-Hour certification is required; First Aid/CPR certifications preferred.
  • MA- Unrestricted Construction Supervisor License (CSL)
  • Valid driver’s license and a reliable vehicle capable of frequent travel to regional job sites.
