Controller

Controller | Manufacturing | Morris County, NJ

We are recruiting for a Controller with established, growing companies in their background, or recent experience managing accounting for private equity portfolio companies. This role is ideal for a hands-on accounting leader who can take ownership of the accounting function, improve processes, develop staff, and partner closely with senior leadership. The right candidate will be comfortable working in a lean, entrepreneurial environment and getting into the details when needed.

Key responsibilities may include:

• Leading monthly close, financial reporting, and general ledger activities
• Overseeing budgeting, forecasting, cash flow, and financial planning
• Managing cost accounting, inventory, and operational reporting
• Supervising and developing accounting staff across A/R, A/P, payroll, and general accounting
• Strengthening controls, processes, and reporting accuracy
• Supporting audits, tax preparation, banking, insurance, and other external relationships
• Assisting with ERP upgrades, systems implementations, and process improvements
• Providing financial insight to ownership, the CFO, and operational leadership
• Manage cost accounting and inventory analysis

Ideal background:

• 5+ years of progressive accounting leadership experience
• Controller or strong Accounting Manager experience within manufacturing environments
• Experience in a small to midsize companies
• Strong budgeting, forecasting, and operational accounting skills
• Proficient with cost accounting and inventory management
• Advanced Excel and strong systems aptitude
• Proven ability to train, mentor, and hold staff accountable
• Excellent communication skills and a proactive, hands-on style
• Experience with ERP systems beyond QuickBooks
