Director, Regulatory Remediation
Full job description
We are seeking an experienced Director of Regulatory Remediation to lead and coordinate the resolution of significant regulatory, audit, and internally identified issues within a highly regulated financial services environment.
This role provides enterprise-level oversight of complex remediation initiatives, partnering with senior executives, business leaders, risk and compliance teams, and regulatory stakeholders to ensure issues are addressed thoroughly and within required timelines. The Director will help establish remediation strategies, challenge action plans, monitor execution, and ensure that corrective measures address underlying causes rather than individual symptoms.
The position also supports senior governance forums and the Board through clear reporting on remediation progress, risks, milestones, and outstanding actions.
Key Responsibilities
- Lead complex remediation efforts: Coordinate high-priority regulatory and audit remediation programs from initial assessment through successful closure, ensuring appropriate governance, ownership, resources, and timelines.
- Advise business and control functions: Partner with stakeholders to develop practical remediation strategies, corrective action plans, governance structures, and sustainable solutions.
- Drive root-cause resolution: Facilitate root cause analysis and challenge proposed corrective actions to ensure they address underlying control or process weaknesses and reduce the likelihood of recurrence.
- Manage senior stakeholders: Work closely with executive leadership, issue owners, compliance, risk, audit, regulatory affairs, and other functions to maintain momentum and accountability.
- Support regulatory engagement: Coordinate materials and supporting documentation for regulatory responses and assist with preparation for regulatory discussions and follow-up activity.
- Provide executive-level reporting: Develop concise reporting for senior management, governance committees, the Board, and regulators covering remediation status, milestones, KPIs, dependencies, risks, and corrective actions.
- Strengthen remediation governance: Maintain the organization's remediation methodology and procedures while promoting consistent standards across business areas and issue types.
- Monitor execution: Track commitments and deliverables, identify potential delays or weaknesses, escalate concerns appropriately, and hold action owners accountable for completion.
- Validate supporting evidence: Coordinate the collection and organization of documentation demonstrating that remediation commitments have been completed effectively.
- Support governance forums: Prepare materials and provide oversight for committees responsible for significant regulatory, audit, and internally identified matters.
Required Experience
- 7+ years of relevant experience in regulatory remediation, compliance, risk management, audit, or related disciplines within financial services, insurance, or another highly regulated industry.
- Demonstrated experience leading or coordinating large, complex remediation programs, including management of timelines, resources, dependencies, and budgets.
- Strong understanding of financial-services regulatory expectations and regulatory change, ideally including exposure to frameworks or standards such as Regulation HH, CPMI-IOSCO principles, and PFMI.
- Experience working with risk assessments, control testing, data lineage, evidence mapping, and corrective action tracking.
- Track record of working effectively with senior executives and cross-functional teams on high-profile or time-sensitive issues.
- Experience producing materials suitable for executive, Board, and regulatory audiences.
Skills & Attributes
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills, particularly the ability to translate complex issues into clear executive-level reporting.
- Strong project and program leadership capabilities with the ability to coordinate multiple stakeholders and competing priorities.
- Confidence influencing senior leaders and challenging action owners when remediation efforts are not progressing as expected.
- Strong analytical and problem-solving skills with the ability to work through ambiguity and complex information.
- Highly organized and comfortable operating in a fast-paced environment where regulatory commitments and deadlines require disciplined execution.
Qualifications
Bachelor's degree in finance, accounting, law, business, or a related discipline required. Professional certifications such as CPA, CIA, project management, risk, audit, or comparable credentials are beneficial.
