This is a fully in-person position based in an office in Suffolk County, Long Island. Hybrid work is not available.
About the RoleMEICON is seeking an experienced Electrical Estimator to support complex electrical scopes for transit, infrastructure, public-sector, and institutional construction projects throughout the Tristate area.
The position provides exposure to large-scale projects and involvement throughout the complete estimating lifecycle, from initial document review and quantity takeoff through pricing and final bid submission.
Key Responsibilities- Prepare detailed electrical quantity takeoffs, cost estimates, bid proposals, and supporting documentation.
- Review electrical drawings, specifications, addenda, and contract documents to determine the complete project scope.
- Estimate labor, materials, equipment, subcontractor costs, and project-specific risks.
- Develop estimates for power distribution, lighting, grounding, fire alarm, communications, low-voltage systems, and related electrical scopes.
- Obtain and evaluate competitive pricing from subcontractors, suppliers, and vendors.
- Identify scope gaps, constructability concerns, exclusions, clarifications, and potential cost risks.
- Participate in pre-bid meetings, site visits, and bid coordination discussions.
- Support value-engineering efforts while maintaining code compliance, system performance, and contract requirements.
- Coordinate with project managers, engineers, vendors, and field teams to validate estimating assumptions.
- Prepare bid breakdowns, proposal schedules, budgets, and required submission documents.
- Maintain estimating databases, historical pricing information, unit costs, and bid records.
- Manage assigned estimates from initial review through final bid submission with minimal supervision.
- Bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering, or a related field.
- Minimum 2 years of electrical estimating experience, preferably with an established electrical contractor or construction firm.
- Experience with transit, infrastructure, public-sector, or institutional projects in the Tristate area is strongly preferred.
- Strong ability to read and interpret electrical drawings, schematics, specifications, and contract documents.
- Proficiency with electrical takeoff and estimating software, Microsoft Excel, and related estimating tools.
- Working knowledge of the NEC, NYC Electrical Code, and applicable construction and safety standards.
- Familiarity with public-agency bidding procedures, documentation, and compliance requirements is preferred.
- Strong analytical, mathematical, organizational, and communication skills.
- Ability to manage deadlines and complete estimates independently from takeoff through submission.
- Detail-oriented, proactive, and passionate about electrical construction and infrastructure projects.
- Ability to work full-time in person at the Suffolk County office.
