Litigation Legal Assistant / Paralegal – Settlement Support

Los Angeles, California | Full-Time | $60,000–$90,000


Our client, a California-based litigation boutique, is seeking a Legal Assistant or Paralegal to support its Settlement Department within its consumer defense litigation practice. This is a primarily remote position, with occasional in-person attendance required for meetings or trial-related work in downtown Los Angeles.


The firm is open to applicants at either the Legal Assistant or Paralegal level. The ideal candidate will have 1–3 years of legal-support experience with exposure to civil litigation and the ability to manage a high-volume workload with accuracy, initiative, and consistent follow-through.


Responsibilities

  • Prepare and process pleadings and other legal documents
  • Assist with California Code of Civil Procedure §998 and Federal Rule of Civil Procedure 68 offers
  • Prepare proofs of service
  • Monitor litigation and settlement deadlines
  • Track settlement documents, payments, and case status
  • Follow up on outstanding items through completion
  • Communicate with attorneys, clients, and opposing counsel
  • Maintain detailed and accurate case-management records
  • Manage competing priorities across a high-volume caseload
  • Record billable time accurately and consistently


Qualifications

  • 1–3 years of legal-support experience with exposure to litigation
  • Exposure to civil litigation and working knowledge of litigation documents and procedures
  • Prior defense-side litigation experience preferred but not required; transferable plaintiff-side civil litigation experience will also be considered
  • Experience preparing pleadings, proofs of service and related legal documents
  • Strong organizational skills and attention to detail
  • Ability to work independently, take initiative and recognize when to ask questions
  • Demonstrated ability to manage deadlines and follow matters through completion
  • Clear and professional written and verbal communication skills
  • Legal billing or billable-time-entry experience preferred


Compensation

  • Legal Assistant: $60,000–$90,000
  • Paralegal: $70,000–$90,000


Compensation will be based on experience, qualifications, and the level at which the person is hired.


Work Arrangement

This is a primarily remote position. Applicants must be available to attend occasional in-person meetings or assist with trial-related work in downtown Los Angeles when required.
