Full job description

We are seeking an experienced Machine Shop Supervisor to lead daily operations within our precision machining department. This role is responsible for supervising machinists and CNC operators, ensuring production schedules are achieved, maintaining the highest quality standards, and driving continuous improvement initiatives. The Machine Shop Supervisor will foster a safe, productive, and collaborative work environment while ensuring customer expectations for quality, delivery, and cost are consistently met.


The ideal candidate is a hands-on manufacturing leader with extensive CNC machining experience, strong technical knowledge, and a passion for coaching and developing high-performing teams.


Key Responsibilities

Production Leadership

  • Supervise the daily activities of CNC machinists, manual machinists, setup technicians, and machine operators.
  • Plan and assign work to maximize productivity while meeting production schedules.
  • Monitor workflow and machine utilization to ensure on-time delivery.
  • Coordinate with Planning, Engineering, Quality, and Maintenance to resolve production issues.
  • Lead daily production meetings and communicate priorities to the team.

Operational Excellence

  • Drive continuous improvement initiatives using Lean Manufacturing principles.
  • Monitor key performance indicators including:
  • Safety
  • Productivity
  • Scrap
  • Overtime
  • Equipment utilization
  • On-time delivery
  • Identify process improvements that reduce cycle time and improve efficiency.
  • Ensure standard work instructions are followed and updated.

Quality Management

  • Ensure all products meet customer specifications and quality standards.
  • Support AS9100, ISO 9001, or customer-specific quality systems as applicable.
  • Work closely with Quality Engineers to resolve nonconforming product issues.
  • Lead root cause investigations and corrective actions.
  • Promote a culture of "Right First Time" manufacturing.

Safety

  • Maintain a safe working environment in compliance with OSHA regulations.
  • Conduct regular safety inspections and toolbox meetings.
  • Investigate workplace incidents and implement corrective actions.
  • Ensure employees utilize proper PPE and safe work practices.

Equipment & Maintenance

  • Coordinate preventative maintenance schedules.
  • Monitor machine performance and downtime.
  • Work with Maintenance to minimize production interruptions.
  • Recommend equipment upgrades and capital improvements.

Employee Leadership

  • Recruit, train, coach, and mentor machining personnel.
  • Conduct performance evaluations.
  • Develop employee skills through cross-training.
  • Address attendance, performance, and disciplinary matters when necessary.
  • Promote teamwork, accountability, and employee engagement.



Qualifications

  • Associate degree in Manufacturing Technology, Mechanical Engineering Technology, or related field preferred.
  • High school diploma or GED required.
  • 5+ years of machining experience in a manufacturing environment.
  • 2+ years of supervisory or team leadership experience.
  • Strong CNC machining knowledge including milling and turning operations.
  • Experience with precision machining of metals and engineered materials.
  • Ability to read engineering drawings and GD&T.
  • Working knowledge of cutting tools, fixtures, and machining processes.
