Full job description
Seeking an experienced Med/Surg Registered Nurse to provide comprehensive nursing care to adult and geriatric patients in a fast-paced acute care environment. The ideal candidate will have strong medical-surgical skills, telemetry experience, and expertise in tracheostomy care and dysrhythmia management.
Key Responsibilities
- Provide comprehensive nursing care to adult and geriatric Med/Surg patients.
- Manage a patient assignment with a typical 1:6 nurse-to-patient ratio.
- Assess patients, develop nursing care plans, administer medications, and monitor patient responses.
- Monitor and interpret cardiac rhythms and manage dysrhythmias appropriately.
- Provide comprehensive tracheostomy care and management, with Respiratory Therapy available for additional support.
- Monitor patients for changes in condition and promptly communicate concerns to physicians and the interdisciplinary care team.
- Collaborate with Physical Therapy, Respiratory Therapy, Pharmacy, Radiology, Social Services, Rapid Response Teams, and other support services.
- Accurately document patient care using Epic EMR.
- Follow infection prevention, patient safety, and hospital policies.
- Float to other units as needed within the nurse's scope and competency.
- Provide safe, patient-centered care in a Level I Trauma environment.
Qualifications
- Minimum 2 years of RN experience required.
- Previous Med/Surg experience required.
- Level I Trauma experience required.
- Active Illinois RN license in hand required.
- BLS and ACLS certifications required.
- NIHSS certification preferred.
- Strong experience with Telemetry and dysrhythmia interpretation/management.
- Experience with tracheostomy care and management required.
- Experience caring for adult and geriatric patients.
- Epic EMR experience preferred.
- Strong assessment, critical-thinking, communication, and clinical decision-making skills.
- Ability to work independently and effectively within a multidisciplinary team.
- Willingness to float as required.
- Ability to work every other weekend.
Important Details:
- 13-week contract position (extensions available)
- Shift is 3x12-hour day shifts | 06:45 AM - 07:15 PM| 36 hours/week
- Location is Harvey, IL 60426
- Pay Rate for Locals: $42 - $44 Hourly
- Pay Rate for Travelers: $1,750 - $1,800 Weekly
