About the Role

Reporting to the Controller, the Senior Accountant performs advanced accounting functions supporting YEC's financial operations, including union payroll, accounts payable, accounts receivable, AIA and progress billing, financial reporting, licensing compliance, and accounting record maintenance.

This role works closely with executive leadership, project managers, operations, and the accounting team to ensure financial accuracy, strengthen processes, and provide reliable financial information that supports business decisions.

What You'll Do

Payroll & Union Reporting

  • Process weekly union payroll accurately and on time in accordance with collective bargaining agreements and applicable wage laws.
  • Maintain payroll and field personnel records.
  • Verify deductions, fringe benefits, and payroll-related transactions.
  • Research and resolve payroll discrepancies.
  • Prepare and submit monthly union reports for multiple jurisdictions.
  • Maintain payroll documentation and records supporting audits and compliance.

Accounts Payable & Accounts Receivable

  • Process office overhead and subcontractor invoices.
  • Prepare and process scheduled check runs.
  • Reconcile vendor statements and respond to vendor inquiries.
  • Prepare AIA and progress billings for construction projects.
  • Coordinate with project managers regarding contract billing requirements.
  • Assist with collection activities as needed.

Financial Reporting & Accounting

  • Prepare monthly management reports and financial schedules.
  • Assist with month-end and year-end closing activities.
  • Maintain accounting records in accordance with company policies and GAAP.
  • Analyze financial information and recommend process improvements.
  • Support internal and external audits.
  • Participate in initiatives to strengthen efficiency and internal controls.

Additional Responsibilities

  • Coordinate insurance certificate requests for customers and projects.
  • Process business and contractor license renewals.
  • Maintain organized accounting files and supporting documentation.
  • Protect the confidentiality of financial and employee information.

What We're Looking For

  • Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related field preferred.
  • 5–10+ years of progressive accounting experience, preferably within construction, electrical contracting, or another project-based industry.
  • Experience with construction accounting and union payroll is highly desirable.
  • Strong understanding of GAAP and accounting best practices.
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.
  • Excellent attention to detail, organization, and time management.
  • Ability to manage multiple priorities and meet deadlines.
  • Ability to work independently while collaborating effectively across teams.

Technology

Experience with the following is preferred:

  • Foundation Construction Accounting Software
  • Microsoft Excel — advanced proficiency preferred
  • Microsoft Outlook
  • Adobe Acrobat
  • Microsoft Office Suite

Experience preparing AIA billing packages, working with union labor agreements, and handling contractor licensing or insurance certificate administration is also highly valued.
