Senior Manager Family Office Accounting
Full job description
A growing Multi-Family Office and Advisory Firm is seeking a Senior Manager of Family Office Accounting & Advisory to join and help build a newly established division focused on providing comprehensive financial services to high-net-worth and ultra-high-net-worth individuals and families.
The firm advises clients ranging from approximately $2 million to $2+ billion in net worth, providing an integrated approach across accounting, tax, financial reporting, investment-related matters, and broader family office advisory.
This is a highly visible, client-facing position with the opportunity to work directly with sophisticated individuals, families, business owners, and their advisors. As one of the senior members of a new and growing practice, this individual will have the opportunity to help shape the division, develop client relationships, build a team, and follow a defined path toward Partner.
Key Responsibilities
- Serve as a primary advisor and relationship manager for a portfolio of high-net-worth and ultra-high-net-worth individuals and families, with net worth ranging from approximately $2 million to $2+ billion.
- Oversee the accounting and financial reporting for clients' personal assets, investment entities, trusts, partnerships, foundations, family businesses, and other closely held entities.
- Provide clients with a comprehensive view of their financial position, including cash flow, liquidity, investment activity, tax exposure, and overall portfolio reporting.
- Partner with clients and their outside advisors on individual, partnership, trust, estate, and investment-related tax planning and compliance.
- Review complex individual and entity tax matters and proactively identify tax-planning opportunities.
- Advise clients on the accounting and tax implications of investments across public markets, private equity, real estate, hedge funds, private credit, operating businesses, and other alternative investments.
- Coordinate with investment managers, attorneys, bankers, estate-planning professionals, insurance advisors, and other third-party service providers.
- Provide broader CFO and family office advisory services, helping clients evaluate financial decisions and manage increasingly complex personal and investment portfolios.
- Oversee budgeting, cash management, capital calls, distributions, investment reporting, and other day-to-day family office accounting functions.
- Manage and review the work of accounting and tax professionals supporting client engagements.
- Develop processes, reporting packages, technology, and best practices as the firm continues to build out its Family Office practice.
- Participate in new client onboarding, prospective client meetings, and business-development initiatives.
- Develop long-term relationships with clients and become a trusted advisor on financial, accounting, tax, and strategic matters.
- Play an integral role in recruiting, developing, and mentoring future members of the Family Office team.
Qualifications
- Active CPA license required.
- Approximately 8+ years of progressive accounting, tax, family office, or advisory experience.
- Strong preference for candidates with experience advising high-net-worth or ultra-high-net-worth individuals and families.
- Experience within a Big Four, national/regional public accounting firm, multi-family office, wealth advisory firm, or private family office is highly desirable.
- Strong understanding of individual taxation and experience with HNW/UHNW tax planning and compliance is strongly preferred.
- Experience working with complex investment structures, partnerships, trusts, closely held businesses, and alternative investments is preferred.
- Ability to understand a client's entire financial picture rather than operating solely as an accountant or tax preparer.
- Strong executive presence and ability to communicate directly with sophisticated clients and their outside advisors.
- Demonstrated ability to manage multiple client relationships and complex engagements simultaneously.
- Entrepreneurial mindset with an interest in building a practice rather than simply joining an established team.
Career Opportunity
This is not intended to be a traditional Senior Manager position with a limited progression path. The Family Office division is a new and strategic growth initiative for the firm, creating an opportunity for this individual to join at an early stage and have a meaningful impact on how the practice is built.
The successful candidate will have exposure to firm leadership, participate in business development and client expansion, help recruit and develop the team beneath them, and take on increasing responsibility for the overall practice.
There is a clear and potentially accelerated path to Partner for an individual who demonstrates the ability to manage sophisticated client relationships, expand the firm's Family Office offering, develop business, and help scale the division.
