A well-established general contractor and developer is seeking a Senior Project Manager with a strong background in ground-up multifamily construction. This person will independently lead projects while managing clients, trade partners, project teams, and the overall financial and operational success of the work.

Why this role stands out

This is a high-autonomy position for someone who knows multifamily construction and wants to truly own their projects. You’ll be trusted to manage the details, make decisions, develop your team, and maintain strong relationships with clients from preconstruction through completion.

What you’ll be doing

  • Leading ground-up multifamily projects from preconstruction through closeout
  • Taking ownership of project financials, operational performance, schedule, and overall execution
  • Managing subcontractors and coordinating complex scopes across multiple trades
  • Acting as a key point of contact for clients, ownership groups, architects, consultants, and project stakeholders
  • Driving bidding, procurement, preconstruction, and project planning
  • Working closely with field leadership to keep projects on schedule and resolve issues proactively
  • Managing and mentoring Project Managers, Assistant Project Managers, Project Engineers, and other direct reports
  • Developing junior team members to independently manage trades and project responsibilities
  • Building and maintaining client relationships while supporting future project opportunities

What they’re looking for

  • Strong ground-up multifamily construction experience
  • Proven ability to independently manage a multifamily project from preconstruction through completion
  • Strong understanding of project financials, cost control, scheduling, procurement, and subcontractor management
  • Experience leading and developing project teams
  • Strong client-facing communication and relationship-management skills
  • Ability to manage the intricacies of multifamily construction, including extensive trade coordination, sequencing, unit turnover, quality control, and schedule management
  • High level of construction knowledge with the leadership ability to drive a project forward

Why this company

  • Opportunity to work on complex multifamily developments throughout the Chicago market
  • Significant autonomy and ownership over your projects
  • Strong emphasis on leadership development and internal career progression
  • Collaborative environment where Senior Project Managers are trusted to lead both projects and people
  • Clear opportunity to continue developing toward Project Executive-level leadership

If you’re an experienced multifamily Project Manager looking for more ownership, larger responsibility, and a company where you can continue progressing your career, this is worth exploring.
