Position Overview

HireIQ are seeking an experienced Senior Property Accountant to join our client’s growing property management team. This role works directly with the CFO and will be mentored into a Controllership position in the future.


This role oversees accounting for a portfolio of co-op, condominium, and multi-family properties across New York, combining hands-on accounting with team leadership and regular collaboration with property managers and boards.


Key Responsibilities

  • Oversee monthly closings and prepare financial statements and board reporting packages
  • Review bank reconciliations, journal entries, and general ledger accounts
  • Support day-to-day accounting operations, including accounts payable, accounts receivable, and payroll
  • Lead and support the accounting team, helping manage priorities and develop their skills
  • Work with property managers to prepare annual budgets, forecasts, and reserve plans
  • Ensure maintenance charges, common charges, special assessments, and chargebacks are accurately recorded
  • Oversee loan payments, amortization schedules, and lender reporting
  • Monitor cash balances and manage banking relationships across the portfolio
  • Coordinate annual audits and tax filings with external accountants
  • Maintain effective internal controls and accurate, compliant financial records
  • Work with boards and treasurers on financial questions, budgets, and reporting
  • Support the onboarding of new properties and financial analysis for portfolio growth


Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related field
  • Around five to seven years of accounting experience, with a background in property management or real estate
  • Comfortable using property accounting software
  • Good Excel skills and experience supporting audits and financial reporting
  • An organised, detail-oriented approach and the ability to manage deadlines across several properties
  • Comfortable working with property managers, board members, and colleagues
