Senior Subject Matter Expert (SME) – AI Research & Evaluation
Location: Mountain View, CA / Silicon Valley
Work Arrangement: Hybrid – Onsite 2 days per week
Engagement: 6-Month Contract | 1099 Independent Contractor
Experience: 10+ Years
Commitment: 35 hours/week
About the Role
We are seeking experienced Subject Matter Experts (SMEs) with 10+ years of professional experience in at least one of the following domains to support advanced research and AI evaluation initiatives.
The ideal candidate will bring deep, practical expertise in their specific area of specialization and will collaborate with research and engineering teams to evaluate information, provide expert insights, and improve the quality and accuracy of research outputs.
AI/ML experience is not required. Strong domain expertise is the key requirement.
Preferred Domain Expertise
Candidates should have strong expertise in at least ONE of the following areas:
- Finance / Accounting
- Legal
- Insurance
- Medical / Healthcare
- Pharmaceutical / Pharma
- STEM
- Biochemistry
- Life Sciences
- Related specialized professional domains
Candidates do not need experience across multiple domains. Expertise in any one of the above areas is sufficient.
Key Responsibilities
- Provide subject matter expertise within your specific professional domain.
- Partner with research and engineering teams on complex research initiatives.
- Review and evaluate research outputs for accuracy, relevance, completeness, and domain alignment.
- Analyze, interpret, and synthesize complex professional, technical, scientific, regulatory, or industry information.
- Provide expert feedback and recommendations to improve research quality and outcomes.
- Support the development and refinement of research methodologies and evaluation frameworks.
- Identify gaps, inconsistencies, or inaccuracies and provide domain-specific insights.
- Collaborate with cross-functional teams to address complex research questions.
- Clearly document findings, assumptions, and recommendations.
- Stay current with relevant industry trends, standards, regulations, and best practices.
Required Qualifications
- 10+ years of professional experience in at least one relevant domain listed above.
- Bachelor's, Master's, PhD, MD, PharmD, JD, CPA, or equivalent qualification relevant to the candidate's area of expertise.
- Demonstrated depth of knowledge and practical experience within your specialization.
- Strong analytical and critical-thinking skills.
- Ability to review, interpret, and synthesize complex information.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
- Ability to work collaboratively with research and engineering teams.
- Prior AI/ML experience is not mandatory.
Location & Engagement
- Must be based in or near Mountain View, California / Silicon Valley.
- Hybrid engagement – 2 days onsite per week.
- 35 hours per week.
- 6-month contract.
- 1099 Independent Contractor.
