Head Trial Attorney – Class Action Employment Litigation
Los Angeles, California
Ready to Lead From the Courtroom?
For the right trial attorney, this isn't simply another litigation position. It's an opportunity to step into a highly visible leadership role with a rapidly growing Los Angeles law firm and help shape the future of its trial practice.
Our client is a fast-growing plaintiff-side employment litigation firm seeking an accomplished Class Action Employment Trial Attorney to serve as the firm's Head Trial Attorney. This individual will take the lead on significant employment matters, drive trial strategy, and become a key member of the firm's leadership as the practice continues to expand.
If you're an experienced trial lawyer who wants more ownership, greater influence, and the opportunity to build something—not simply inherit another caseload—this could be an exceptional next step.
The Opportunity
As Head Trial Attorney, you will be the firm's go-to courtroom leader, taking ownership of cases as they move toward trial and working closely with attorneys across the practice to develop winning litigation strategies.
This role offers significant visibility and autonomy. You'll have the opportunity to influence how cases are prepared and tried, mentor and develop other attorneys, and help establish the processes and standards of a growing trial practice.
Most importantly, this is a role with room to grow. As the firm expands, the successful attorney will have the opportunity to expand their leadership responsibilities and play an increasingly important role in the direction and success of the practice.
What You'll Do
- Serve as the firm's lead trial attorney on complex employment litigation matters, including class and representative actions.
- Take cases through trial, including developing case themes and strategy, preparing witnesses, conducting direct and cross-examinations, presenting evidence, and delivering opening and closing arguments.
- Partner with litigation teams early in the lifecycle of significant cases to ensure matters are positioned effectively for trial.
- Handle and oversee depositions, dispositive motions, evidentiary issues, expert witnesses, mediation, settlement strategy, and pre-trial proceedings.
- Develop compelling courtroom strategies for complex employment matters involving significant exposure and sophisticated opposing counsel.
- Provide leadership, mentorship, and trial guidance to attorneys throughout the firm.
- Help establish and refine the firm's trial preparation processes, standards, and best practices.
- Work directly with firm leadership on high-value matters and the continued development of the firm's litigation and trial capabilities.
What We're Looking For
- Active membership in the California State Bar.
- Significant hands-on civil litigation and first-chair trial experience.
- Strong employment litigation experience; experience with class actions and/or representative actions is highly valued.
- Demonstrated ability to independently develop and execute trial strategy.
- Deep experience with depositions, discovery, motion practice, expert witnesses, evidentiary issues, and courtroom advocacy.
- Exceptional persuasive writing, oral advocacy, negotiation, and communication skills.
- Strong leadership instincts with the ability to mentor attorneys and elevate the performance of a litigation team.
- Confidence operating with a high degree of autonomy while collaborating closely with firm leadership.
- Entrepreneurial mindset and genuine interest in helping build and grow a sophisticated trial practice.
Why This Opportunity Stands Out
Be the trial leader.
Rather than joining a large trial team and waiting for opportunities, you'll step into a role where your courtroom experience is central to the firm's strategy.
Build.
The firm is growing quickly, creating an opportunity to influence how the trial function develops rather than simply stepping into an established structure.
Have a voice.
You'll work closely with firm leadership and have meaningful input into litigation strategy, attorney development, and the future of the practice.
Take on sophisticated work.
Lead complex employment matters where strong strategy, preparation, and courtroom advocacy can have significant impact.
Grow with the firm.
This role is designed to evolve. For an attorney with the right combination of trial skill, leadership ability, and ambition, there is significant potential for continued professional and leadership growth.
